The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
American looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Chelios is fending him off so far but American persists. Nope, Chelios circles away and we're back to standing.

American feints and as Chelios raises his hands in defense, American changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw American working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

That was a close round but I would say that Chev Chelios will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

American has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Chelios finds it's way round the side to connect with American's head.

Chelios finds American's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! American flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Chelios lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure American will be OK.
