Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pertti Silsa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silsa kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Candy by Robbie Williams. Pertti Silsa has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nate Newman!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silsa blocks a jab.
Silsa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Silsa wants it to stay on the feet.
Newman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Silsa manages to avoid it.
Newman misses with a body shot.
Silsa was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Newman walks into a stiff left hand from Silsa.
Newman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Newman keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Newman finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Silsa gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Newman.
Newman dodges the punch combination from Silsa.
Newman tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Newman takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Newman stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Newman has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Silsa drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Silsa tries to move into full mount but can't pass Newman's legs.
We've been hearing good reports from Silsa's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

That was a close round but I would say that Pertti Silsa will probably get the nod.

Newman lands a nice shot that snaps Silsa's head back.
Silsa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Newman regains half guard there - taking advantage of Silsa's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Newman seems to have recovered his senses.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Newman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Silsa's guard.

Newman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Silsa is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Silsa is looking for a sweep. Newman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Newman wants to advance to full mount but Silsa doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

As Newman looks to move away, Silsa throws a big counter combo bu Newman just gets out of the way.

Silsa fails in his attempt to clinch.
Newman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Silsa defends well and Newman ends up having to push Silsa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Newman misses with a hook. Silsa ducked under it nicely.
Newman connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Silsa checks the leg kick nicely there.

Newman lands a right hook to the body.

Newman swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A jab lands there for Silsa.
Silsa drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Newman right on the button. Newman goes down! Silsa follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Silsa gets the win via TKO!
