PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amos Miguel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Barnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Amos Miguel!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miguel tries a head kick but it misses.
Barnett throws a quick counter head kick but Miguel was just out of range.

Miguel clinches up against the cage.
Miguel with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Barnett blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Barnett changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Miguel fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Barnett moves to clinch but Miguel breaks away
enabling Miguel to counter with a crisp jab.
Miguel shoots in but no luck this time.
Barnett has been working on his balance at WildBoar's Pig Pen (Strength and Conditioning) $40, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Miguel.
Barnett leaves Miguel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
As Miguel looks to move away, Barnett throws a big counter combo bu Miguel just gets out of the way.
Miguel is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barnett takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Miguel tries to clinch up but Barnett circles away and keeps his distance.
Amos Miguel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Barnett closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Barnett lands in his opponent's guard.
Barnett missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Barnett loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Barnett trying to control the position from guard on top but Miguel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Barnett throws an elbow that misses. Miguel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Barnett's guard. Nice move by Miguel!


Barnett looking for a guillotine here but Miguel defends easily.

Barnett has his foot on Miguel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Miguel works his way back into a safe position though.
Barnett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Miguel wants to control from the top but Barnett keeps moving.
Miguel works over Barnett with some ground and pound from guard.
Miguel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barnett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Miguel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Barnett working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Miguel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Miguel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Miguel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miguel content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Miguel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Miguel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Miguel wants to control from the top but Barnett keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amos Miguel dominated that round.
That's time! Barnett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Miguel pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Miguel gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Miguel slowing the pace effectively.

Miguel lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Josh Barnett has been cut.
Miguel looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Miguel lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Barnett backwards.
Miguel is struggling to control the position.
Miguel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Miguel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miguel gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Miguel throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Miguel comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Miguel pulls guard effortlessly.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Miguel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Barnett drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Miguel dives on top into guard.


Barnett had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Miguel defends it easily.

Barnett wants to control position but Miguel is using a can opener to pass guard... He's turned it into a full on guillotine from mount now! Big trouble for Barnett here! He's turning a lovely shade of purple and yep! He's tapping out! I would say world class Jiu Jitsu but is it really? It was nice but let's not get silly about it.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Amos Miguel!
