PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stone Flail (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Stanford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flail comes into the arena with Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself by Ice Cube blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jeremy Stanford enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Stone Flail!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeremy Stanford!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flail misses with the body kick

and Stanford counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Flail is trying to stand up here but Stanford is controlling him well.
Stanford uses his free foot to push down on Flail's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Flail.

Stanford goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Flail turns into him and now he's in Stanford's guard.
Flail postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Flail knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stanford on the ground.
Flail working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Flail throws a big elbow that misses.
Stanford bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Flail's guard.

Stanford looking to sit in guard and control but Flail gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Flail is working Stanford over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Stanford pulls Flail in close to his closed guard and prevents Flail from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stanford looking for a guillotine here but Flail defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stanford preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Flail avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stanford pulls Flail in close to his closed guard and prevents Flail from doing any damage or advancing position.

Stanford throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Stanford looking for a sweep. Not yet Stanford, not yet.
Flail is working Stanford over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Flail throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Stanford utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Stanford keeping moving, preventing Flail from controlling successfully.
Stanford has momentary wrist control but Flail slips an elbow through the middle.
Flail working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Stanford's head.
Flail looking to pass the guard.

Stanford has his foot on Flail's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Flail works his way back into a safe position though.
Flail won't allow Stanford to get back to his feet.

Stanford working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Flail doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Stanford is tightening it up a little... Flail has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Flail reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Flail taps out! Nice BJJ there by Stanford!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Jeremy Stanford!
During a confident post fight interview, Jeremy Stanford thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
