PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rod Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cornel Fellon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Rod Cook has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Rod Cook seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rod Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cornel Fellon!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Igor Prikhodko and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fellon is looking to clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cook.
Horrible takedown attempt by Fellon or perhaps it was just good defense by Cook, which made it look bad.
Fellon closes the distance and clinches up with Cook, looking for a takedown. Fellon pushes Cook against the cage but Cook circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cook.
Fellon is trying to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fellon wants to control but Cook postures up.
Cook in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fellon tries to buck Cook off but Cook is having none of it.
Fellon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cook off and has taken his back!

Fellon has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Cook. No joy for Fellon on that attempt.

Fellon tries to close the distance and clinch but Cook swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Fellon closes the distance and pushes Cook back into the cage.
Fellon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cook gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Fellon jumps guard but Cook turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Fellon is trying to break free.
Fellon tries to land knees in the clinch but Cook avoids the damage to the body.

Cook pulls guard.

Cook is trying to control the position but Fellon postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Fellon dives in and grabs Cook's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cook pushes down on Fellon's head and hops out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Fellon throws a leg kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Fellon shoots in and drives through. Cook sprawls well.
Fellon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cook but Cook pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Fellon moves into the clinch.
Nice body punch from Cook.
Cook tries to work over Fellon's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fellon tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cook just stands there and leans against the cage.
Fellon wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cook has him pressed against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rod Cook dominated that round.
That's time! Cook's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Fellon tries to clinch up.
Fellon takes a swing at Cook's ribcage but misses.
Cook seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Fellon throws a head kick but Cook moves out of range.
Fellon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Fellon throws a leg kick
and Cook makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Fellon wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Cook keeping moving, preventing Fellon from controlling successfully.
Cook wants to sweep here but Fellon controlling him for the moment.

Fellon wants to stand and escape but instead Cook has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Fellon will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Cook slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Fellon.

Fellon is defending against the submission attempts here by Cook.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Fellon wants to control but Cook is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Cook drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cook cracks Fellon with a solid left hand.

Fellon's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fellon misses with a knee to the head.
Fellon has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cook avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Fellon is breathing heavily.
Fellon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cook walks away with a smile on his face. Fellon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Fellon tries for a takedown but Cook sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Cook feinted with a counter takedown.

Cook throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Fellon tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cook is in Fellon's guard.
Cook working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cook stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Cook closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Fellon did well to prevent Cook getting side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Cook is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fellon can do to turn this around?
Fellon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Fellon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cook's waist but Cook gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fellon off to one side.

Fellon throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Cook pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cook is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Fellon to keep the fight standing.

Cook shoots for a double leg takedown but Fellon sprawls well. He's pushed Cook's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Well Cook has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
