PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mac McNulty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Dogg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dogg has chosen Kickstart My Heart as his entrance music. Mac McNulty has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mac McNulty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ron Dogg!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McNulty cracks Dogg with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Dogg shoots in but McNulty avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McNulty throws a looping overhand right but Dogg ducks down to avoid it.
Dogg circles away from the clinch attempt

and Dogg counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dogg passes to side control.
McNulty is not content to let Dogg control the position.
McNulty tries to buck Dogg off but Dogg is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dogg trying to control the action but McNulty is working from the bottom.
McNulty is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McNulty is letting Dogg control him for a moment.

McNulty tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dogg wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
McNulty wants to get back to his feet.
McNulty is looking to reverse the position.
Dogg working the ground and pound.

Dogg is looking to take a break and control but McNulty is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A lull in the action here as Dogg stalls from top position.

Dogg tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dogg has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Dogg happy to just control the position for now.
McNulty is trying to improve his position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Dogg wants to lay and pray for a moment but McNulty keeps working.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McNulty is looking to regain half guard here but Dogg keeps moving and retains side control.
Dogg wants to control but McNulty is keeping him busy.
McNulty tries to buck Dogg off but Dogg is having none of it.

Dogg is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McNulty will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

McNulty is pushing Dogg's head away, looking to escape. Dogg manages to hold on to the position though.
McNulty is looking to regain half guard here but Dogg keeps moving and retains side control.

McNulty tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dogg is looking to take a break and control but McNulty is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Dogg dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McNulty takes a swing at Dogg's ribcage but misses.

Dogg closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McNulty to the mat! McNulty manages to get full guard.
McNulty controls Dogg momentarily but Dogg frees himself.
Dogg wants to pass the guard but McNulty is keeping the position.
McNulty is trying to keep Dogg in close.
Dogg advances position into side control!

Dogg is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McNulty has escaped the position, nice work there.

Dogg remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dogg is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McNulty will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
McNulty is not content to let Dogg control the position.

McNulty is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Dogg's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Dogg has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McNulty is trying to get back to full guard.
Dogg looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
McNulty wants to improve his position but Dogg is controlling well.
McNulty gets full guard.
McNulty is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Dogg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Dogg is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Dogg wants to control from the top but McNulty keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

McNulty is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dogg defends well.
McNulty trying to control the position.
McNulty is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dogg postures up and lands a big shot to McNulty's brow.
Dogg trying to control but McNulty is working from the bottom.

McNulty had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dogg defends it easily.

Ron Dogg showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Dogg slips a jab from McNulty.
Dogg drops down looking to force a counter takedown but McNulty defends it well.

McNulty gets caught flat footed, as Dogg shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Dogg's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Dogg gets to his feet - McNulty follows without any prompting.
McNulty misses with an uppercut. Dogg saw that one coming.
McNulty moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

McNulty moves into the clinch successfully.
McNulty is pressed up against the cage. Dogg has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McNulty down to the mat. McNulty avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Dogg shoots in looking for a takedown. McNulty tries to sprawl out of it but Dogg keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McNulty manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dogg shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mac McNulty has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ron Dogg.
McNulty misses with the combination.
Dogg fails in his attempt to clinch.

A left lands for McNulty.
Dogg fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McNulty avoids it really well and circles away.
McNulty is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
McNulty scores with a leg kick.
Ron Dogg is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dogg tries to close the distance and clinch but McNulty swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
McNulty paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
McNulty misses with a jab to the body
letting Dogg counter with a right hand.
McNulty misses with a looping left.
Dogg darts in looking for a takedown but McNulty gets double underhooks and turns Dogg into the cage.
McNulty looks to clinch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Dogg with a lazy takedown attempt
enabling McNulty to counter with a crisp jab.
Dogg shoots in for a double leg but McNulty sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McNulty fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

McNulty tries to sprawl but Dogg drives through with a takedown into half guard.

McNulty pushes Dogg off and gets back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dogg dives in for a single leg takedown but McNulty sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Dogg takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
McNulty thuds his right hand into Dogg's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


Dogg is rocked!
Mac McNulty seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McNulty finds Dogg's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Dogg flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. McNulty lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Dogg will be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mac McNulty!
