PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Khan Dharma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Matuna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Khan Dharma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Matuna!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dharma closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Matuna to the mat! Matuna manages to get full guard.

Dharma stands up over Matuna, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Dharma stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dharma wants it to stay on the feet.
Khan Dharma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Matuna.

Dharma throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Matuna tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Dharma is in Matuna's guard.
Matuna can't keep his opponent in guard - Dharma advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Matuna really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dharma. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Matuna has hold of Dharma's hands but Dharma slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Dharma passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Matuna!

Matuna should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Dharma has control of Matuna's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Matuna regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Dharma can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Matuna is looking to escape.

Dharma is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Matuna to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Matuna shrugs it off.

Matuna has closed the distance and engaged Dharma in a clinch.

Matuna pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Matuna uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dharma.

Dharma gets caught flat footed, as Matuna shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Matuna stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dharma swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dharma has his foot on Matuna's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Matuna works his way back into a safe position though.

Dharma is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Dharma changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Matuna throws a right and a left that Dharma avoids nicely.

Dharma closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Matuna quickly recovers to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dharma connects with a nice short shot to Matuna's temple.

Dharma is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Matuna can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Matuna can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well Dharma has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
