PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Corak Hoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). West is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Game - 100 ft. Drake. Andrew West is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Corak Hoon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andrew West!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
West connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Hoon misses with a takedown attempt
and West counters with a straight right hand.
West has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Hoon shoots and misses
and Hoon takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hoon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Corak Hoon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hoon takes one on the button.
West lands with a shot to the body.
West defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hoon.

Hoon drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hoon has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
West has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Hoon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. West is keeping the position for now.
Hoon chips away with some ground and pound.
West is pulling down on Hoon's head. It's preventing any offense from Hoon, at least for the moment.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hoon won't allow West to sweep him here.

Hoon tries to free his leg and advance position but West is retaining full guard.
West looking to control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if West can do anything to dispel that myth.

West pushes Hoon off and gets back to his feet.
Hoon shoots in for a takedown but West shows good takedown defense.
West misses with a jab, cross combination.
Nice uppercut lands for West. That snapped Hoon's head back.
Hoon steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from West. That one must have hurt.
Hoon dives in for a single leg takedown but West sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
West turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
West stuffs the takedown.
Sloppy strikes from West. Those never looked like landing.
Hoon fails with the takedown
and West counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Hoon is breathing heavily.
West connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
West dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
West has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Hoon fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but West avoids it really well and circles away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from West! But no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
West connects with a jab.
West lands a head shot.
West lands with a good body shot.
West bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hoon's head.
West scores with a nice head shot.
Andrew West is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hoon tries for a takedown but West circles away easily

and West counters with a takedown into side control.

Hoon is trying to improve his position.

West tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hoon taking a bit of punishment here - West scoring with strikes.

West thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
West tries to advance to mount but can't.
The ground and pound from West seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Hoon can't do much from the bottom here.
Hoon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked West off and has taken his back!

Hoon is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. West knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften West for a finish.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
West rolls, trying to escape but Hoon keeps control of the position.
Hoon lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can West hold on?!
West looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Hoon looking for the choke from the back.
Hoon throwing damaging strikes from the back! West could be in trouble here!
You can see the frustration on West's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrew West dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


West connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Hoon shoots in looking for a takedown but West manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hoon's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
West lands a jab to Hoon's midsection.
West misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
West darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
A jab from West does it's job there.
Hoon misses with a series of wild punches.
Hoon doesn't succeed with the takedown
and West cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
West has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
West lands the left hand.
Jab, jab by West - just one landing.
Corak Hoon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hoon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts West as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Corak Hoon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

West lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Hoon at a distance.

West connects with a looping right hand.
Hoon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hoon takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

and West counters with a nice uppercut.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hoon gets cracked with a nice right hand there by West.
West works Hoon's body with a nice hook.
A jab from West finds it's way through Hoon's defenses.
West cracks Hoon with an open hand slap.
West throws a shot to the body.
West lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by West.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hoon with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling West to score with a decent uppercut.
Hoon moves forwards but West connects with a nice, crisp jab.
West sizes up Hoon with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
West lands a head kick!


Hoon is rocked!
West fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Hoon has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Oh Hoon is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
West cracks Hoon with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Hoon falls to his knees and West doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrew West!
Andrew West tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
