The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Siitaari.

Siitaari fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shields, pushing him back against the cage.

Shields jumps guard and drags Siitaari to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shields knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Siitaari on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shields fails to land the takedown.

Shields is fighting to break Siitaari's control of his arms but Siitaari is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Siitaari drops back looking for a leg! Shields is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shields manages to kick Siitaari off! Siitaari jumps back into Shields's guard.
Siitaari has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Shields dives in and scores a takedown into Siitaari's guard.
Siitaari has Shields pulled in close to control his posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Siitaari bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shields's guard.
Siitaari controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Siitaari misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Shields gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Siitaari counters with a nice double leg into side control. Shields won't be happy with that.
Shields is looking to get back to his feet here but Siitaari is keeping cool and he's managed to take Shields's back.

Siitaari is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Siitaari gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Siitaari gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Siitaari apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Siitaari feints and as Shields raises his hands in defense, Siitaari changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Siitaari slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Siitaari connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shields some visible discomfort.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
