PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alex Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Lawliet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lawliet has chosen Stetsasonic - On Fire as his entrance music. Nate Lawliet will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alex Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nate Lawliet!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Lesnar.
Lesnar misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Lawliet looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Lawliet, as that shot connected.
Lesnar takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lesnar fails to land with a series of punches.
Lawliet swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Lawliet throws a shot to the body.
Lesnar tries to land a leg kick but Lawliet saw it coming and moves away.
A little jabbing left from Lawliet on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sloppy strikes from Lesnar. Those never looked like landing.
Lesnar is looking to clinch.
Lesnar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lawliet paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Despite the aggression on Lawliet's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Lawliet lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Lesnar misses with a double jab
and Lesnar takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Lesnar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Lesnar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lawliet pinned against the cage. Lawliet gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lesnar throws a right and a left that both miss.
Lesnar throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
letting Lawliet counter with a right hand.
Lawliet slips a jab and a cross from Lesnar.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lesnar throws a sloppy head kick and Lawliet moves out of range easily.
Lawliet is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Lawliet lands with a shot to the body.
Lesnar will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lawliet appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Lawliet lands with an uppercut that bounces Lesnar off the cage and back into range.
Lesnar pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Lesnar definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Lawliet defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lesnar.
As Lesnar backs off Lawliet throws a huge counter combo but Lesnar manages to avoid it all.

Lesnar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lawliet, pushing him back against the cage.

Lesnar manages to break the clinch.
Lawliet lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Alex Lesnar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lesnar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lawliet circles away quickly and effectively.
Lawliet is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Lesnar with a body shot.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lesnar throws the left hand but Lawliet avoids the punch easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Lawliet! But no joy.
Nate Lawliet is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Lawliet dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lesnar throws a right and a left that Lawliet avoids nicely.
Lawliet looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Nate Lawliet seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Lesnar shoots in for a takedown but Lawliet shows good takedown defense.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Lawliet! But no joy.
Lawliet lands with a nice body punch.
Lawliet throws a good cross that connects.
We've been informed that Lawliet has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Lawliet cracks Lesnar with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Lawliet has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lesnar tries to bum rush Lawliet with a series of wild strikes but Lawliet uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lawliet comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Lawliet digs a good body shot into Lesnar's ribs.
A punch combination from Lesnar misses.
It seemed like Lawliet was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Lesnar will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lawliet throws out a counter right but Lesnar avoids it with no problem.
Lesnar shoots for a takedown but Lawliet saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Lawliet looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Lesnar has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lawliet finds it's way round the side to connect with Lesnar's head.

Lesnar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lawliet looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lesnar in side control, throwing shots but Lawliet defends.
Lawliet parries the strikes from Lesnar easily there. Lesnar is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Lawliet to escape.
Lesnar lands a nice forearm strike.
Lawliet on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Lesnar working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Lawliet taking punishment in the form of punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lesnar working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Lawliet is rocked!

Lawliet is trying to control Lesnar's posture but Lesnar avoids it.
Lawliet is still in real trouble! Can Lesnar finish him?
Lesnar tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Lawliet seems to have recovered his senses.
Check out the look on Lesnar's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Lawliet tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Lesnar presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lawliet keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Lawliet really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lesnar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lawliet bucks Lesnar off and manages to get back to his feet!
Lawliet dodges the punch combination from Lesnar.
Lawliet throws out a counter right but Lesnar avoids it with no problem.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lesnar takes the fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Lesnar dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


No joy there for Lesnar, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Lesnar falls off balance throwing a combination
and Lawliet counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Lesnar fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lesnar tries a head kick but it misses.

Lesnar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lawliet's waist but Lawliet gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lesnar off to one side.

and Lawliet counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Lesnar looks to land a combination but Lawliet avoids it well.
Lawliet is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Lesnar with a body shot.
Lawliet scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Lesnar tries to clinch up but Lawliet circles away and keeps his distance.
Lesnar shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Lawliet cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Lesnar throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Lawliet counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lesnar falls off balance throwing a combination

Lesnar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lawliet as he avoids it easily.
A countering left hand to the body from Lawliet misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Lesnar. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lesnar closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lesnar lands in his opponent's guard.

Lesnar's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Lesnar stands and steps away. Lawliet gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nate Lawliet comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lawliet has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
