PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rick Rypien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Fermazi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rick Rypien!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Fermazi!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fermazi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rypien.
Fermazi misses with a looping right.
Vladimir Fermazi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fermazi tries to clinch up but Rypien circles away and keeps his distance.
Rypien throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fermazi misses with a double jab
and Rypien counters with a right hand to the body.
Rypien throws a series of punches but Fermazi moves out of range.
Fermazi tries to close the distance and clinch but Rypien swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rypien fails to land with a series of punches.
Fermazi has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rypien finds it's way round the side to connect with Fermazi's head.
A big left from Fermazi misses.
Rypien misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Fermazi swats away the attempt to clinch by Rypien.
Fermazi lands a jab-cross combination.
Fermazi throws a nice looking combination but Rypien bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Fermazi throws and low kick but Rypien moves out of range easily.
Fermazi drops Rypien with a left and a right! Oh, Rypien is hurt - Fermazi dives into side control looking to finish!


Rypien is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The strikes coming from Fermazi are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Oh Rypien is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fermazi controlling the position from side mount.

Rypien struggling a bit here.
Rypien seems to have got his legs back now.
Fermazi tries to advance to mount but Rypien denies him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rypien tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Fermazi working away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fermazi closes the distance but Rypien moves to the side
and Fermazi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice combo by Rypien! Oh, that's hurt him - Fermazi falls to the canvas and Rypien follows him into side control.


Fermazi is rocked!


It looks like Vladimir Fermazi has been cut.
Fermazi looks gassed!
Rypien throws an elbow but Fermazi slips to the side and avoids it well.
Fermazi is still in real trouble! Can Rypien finish him?

Rypien swings around for an armbar but Fermazi sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rypien's guard.
Fermazi seems to have recovered his senses.
Fermazi sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rypien is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rypien is really struggling to control Fermazi but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Rypien tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Vladimir Fermazi will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Vladimir Fermazi's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fermazi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Rypien throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A jab-cross combination lands for Rypien and sends Fermazi crashing to the mat! Rypien follows him down to the mat - Fermazi regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!
Rypien trying to control the action but Fermazi is working from the bottom.
Fermazi blocking the ground and pound attempt from Rypien.
Fermazi is trying to stand up here but Rypien is controlling him well.
Fermazi is staying active underneath Rypien, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rypien is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rypien lands a nice short elbow.
Fermazi is breathing heavily.
Well, if Rypien is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Rypien's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rypien trying to control the action but Fermazi is working from the bottom.
Rypien is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Fermazi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rypien is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fermazi tries to kick Rypien off but Rypien keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rypien wants to get back to his feet.
Rypien seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fermazi is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rypien scores with a couple of nice shots.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rypien scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Rypien dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Vladimir Fermazi's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Fermazi throws a sloppy head kick and Rypien moves out of range easily.
Fermazi takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Fermazi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rypien paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fermazi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rick Rypien is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rypien avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Rypien lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Fermazi backs up against the cage.
Rypien drops Fermazi with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Fermazi looks back up at him and smiles so Rypien waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


That has opened up Vladimir Fermazi's cut even more.
Rypien lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Fermazi falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Rick Rypien!
