PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Allan Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Andy Kane was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Allan Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andy Kane!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates moves out of range as Kane throws a body kick.
Bates is looking for a counter combo.
Kane throws a hook but Bates avoids it easily.
Kane pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kane misses with a wild combination.
Bates seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Kane misses with a leg kick

and Bates counters by clinching up.
Bates lands a nice shot to the body.
Bates could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bates utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Kane misses with the head strike.
Bates lands a nice uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kane wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bates has him pressed against the cage.

Bates escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bates slips a jab from Kane.

Bates darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Kane kicks off Bates and gets to his feet.

Kane looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
A combination from Kane does no damage.

Bates throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kane was covering up waiting for the punch and Bates finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Kane manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Bates is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kane is defending well for now.

Bates escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kane looks to land a body kick but Bates moved away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kane loads up on a big right hand but Bates slips the punch.
Bates blocks a low kick nicely.

It looked like Bates was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Kane throws out a leg kick but Bates moves out of range and Kane only half commits.
Kane cracks Bates with an open hand slap.

Bates closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kane to the mat! Kane manages to get full guard.
Bates throws a big right hand that misses.
Bates works over Kane with some ground and pound from guard.

Bates got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kane has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bates has managed to get both his arms back between Kane's legs - danger averted.
Bates would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bates accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bates loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bates throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kane works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bates knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kane on the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kane is on top in guard.

Bates is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A close round but Andy Kane will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kane looks to throw the jab but Bates is out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bates.

Kane explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Bates manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kane on his heels. He'll look to pass Kane's guard now, I'm sure.

Kane has his feet on Bates's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like Allan Bates has been cut.
Kane throws a low kick but it's checked well by Bates.

Bates might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kane has control of Bates's left arm, preventing Bates from doing any damage.
Bates postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bates wants to stand but Kane has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Bates throws an elbow that misses. Kane uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bates's guard. Nice move by Kane!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bates is adopting a defensive guard.
Kane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bates swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kane controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Kane goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Bates shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kane defends it nicely.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Bates tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kane sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bates somewhat.

Kane tries to land a front kick but Bates steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Bates feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bates goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kane rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bates's guard! Nice work there by Kane!

Kane tries to pass to full mount but Bates defends it.
Andy Kane has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bates is refusing to be controlled, as Kane sits in half guard.

Bates pushes Kane off looking to stand but Kane dives back in and keeps control.

Kane is looking for a kimura but Bates is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kane to get the leverage.

Andy Kane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kane winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
