PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Angel Rey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Blair (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rey is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Angel Rey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brett Blair!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rey gets the takedown into side control.
Rey is breathing heavily.
Blair tries to bench press Rey off him but Rey keeps the position.
Blair should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
You can see the frustration on Blair's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Blair tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rey wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Blair is trying to control Rey's posture but Rey avoids it.
Blair is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Blair really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rey. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Blair can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rey looks up at the clock and then as Blair takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rey smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Rey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Blair can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Blair postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Blair working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rey's head.
Blair wants to control from the top but Rey keeps moving.
Rey has momentary wrist control but Blair slips an elbow through the middle.

Rey is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Blair defends well.

Rey had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Blair defends it easily.
Blair distracts Rey with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Blair stands up over Rey, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Blair lands a couple of digs.

Angel Rey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Blair with a nice head shot there.
Blair keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rey's head.
Rey can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Blair controls the pace.

Blair is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Rey has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Blair is looking to defend but Rey has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Blair! Rey pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Blair taps out and this one is all over!

After winning the bout, Angel Rey thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
