Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leonardo Washington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ovidiu Roman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Washington or perhaps it was just good defense by Roman, which made it look bad.

Roman gets caught napping as Washington dives in and scores a takedown. Roman manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Washington gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Washington really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Washington throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Washington throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Roman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Roman wants to improve his position but instead Washington has moved into half guard.
Washington is nestled in close to Roman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Washington connects with a nice short shot to Roman's temple.

Washington seems to be working for a kimura but Roman defends the submission attempt.
Roman tries to get to full guard but Washington has control of the leg.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roman can do anything to dispel that myth.
Roman is looking to get back to full guard here but Washington has managed to pass to side control instead.

Washington looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Washington is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Roman is trying to escape and Washington transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Roman is forced to tap! Nice work there by Washington! Very nice indeed!
