The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Allen lands a really nice looking cross but zavos seems unphased.
Allen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

zavos closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The fight stays on the outside here - Allen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Allen had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. zavos is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Allen Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take zavos's back instead.

Allen is pulling down on zavos's head. It's preventing any offense from zavos, at least for the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

zavos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
