The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mendez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Agatupu wants to get back to his feet.
Agatupu is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Mendez goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Agatupu rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Mendez's guard! Nice work there by Agatupu!
Agatupu must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mendez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Agatupu has escaped the position, nice work there.
Agatupu wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendez advances to mount.
Mendez scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Mendez looking to control but Agatupu is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Agatupu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mendez is looking to work his way around to Agatupu's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Agatupu reaches up to try and control the position but Mendez seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Agatupu rolls and tries to escape and now Mendez has his back!
Mendez is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Agatupu won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Mendez off his unconscious opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Aaron Mendez!
Ian Agatupu spoke after the fight, saying 'You think that was bizarre, just wait until my next fight!'.
