PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Ruger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Guily (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Robbie Ruger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Guily!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guily fails with the takedown.
Ruger will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Guily throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Ruger counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Guily avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Guily not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ruger tries to stand but Guily is controlling from the bottom.
Guily wants to stand but Ruger is controlling the position.
Guily is trying to keep Ruger in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruger trying to control but Guily is working from the bottom.
Ruger will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Guily keeping full guard, as Ruger tries to pass.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Ruger rushes Guily and presses him up against the cage.
Ruger lands with a left to the head.
Guily has had enough of the clinch but Ruger keeps him there for the moment.
Guily wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ruger has him pressed against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Ruger pulls guard.
Ruger looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ruger is trying to control the position but Guily postures up.
Guily postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Guily pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ruger is keeping the position for now.
Guily won't allow Ruger to get back to his feet.
Ruger trying to keep a closed guard but Guily is proving a slippery customer.
Ruger looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guily is one step ahead there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ruger is looking to clinch but Guily is avoiding it.
Ruger circles away from the clinch attempt
and Ruger counters with a series of strikes. Guily will be more careful next time no doubt.
Guily looks gassed!
A combination from Guily does no damage.
Guily shoots for a double leg takedown but Ruger sprawls well. He's pushed Guily's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ruger blocks a head kick by Guily.

Ruger has Guily up against the cage in a clinch.

Ruger manages to break the clinch.
Guily misses with a low kick.
Ruger misses the jab.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ruger.
Ruger tries to clinch but Guily moves out of range.
Jay Guily seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ruger connects with a good right hand that stumbles Guily. Guily circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Ruger clinches up against the cage.
Ruger lands with a short shot to the head.
Ruger is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Guily has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ruger is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Robbie Ruger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Guily.
A right hook to the body lands for Ruger.
Ruger lands an elbow just above Guily 's eye.
Guily takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Jay Guily has been cut.
Ruger scores with a shot to the side of Guily's head.
Ruger is leaning against Guily and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Ruger connects with a nasty looking knee right to Guily's face.
Ruger is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Guily takes an elbow to the forehead.
Ruger has Guily pushed against the cage.
Ruger seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Ruger decides to pull guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Guily slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Guily tries to free his leg and advance position but Ruger is retaining full guard.
Ruger trying to control the position.
Guily wants to control from the top but Ruger keeps moving.
Ruger is trying to control the position from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ruger fails in his attempt to clinch.
Guily closes the distance but Ruger moves to the side
and Ruger counters with a series of strikes. Guily will be more careful next time no doubt.
Guily has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ruger finds it's way round the side to connect with Guily's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ruger bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here as Ruger stalls from top position.
Guily tries to improve position but can't.
Guily is looking to get back to his feet here but Ruger is keeping cool and he's managed to take Guily's back.
Ruger is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Guily controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Guily is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Ruger.
Ruger scores with strikes from the back.
Ruger loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Guily hold on?
Guily looking very determined here, making life difficult for Ruger.
Ruger controls the action.
Guily tries to escape the position.

Ruger lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Ruger controls the position.
Guily trying to control the position but Ruger manages to sink in the hooks.
Guily staying busy and making it hard for Ruger to control.
Ruger lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Ruger has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Guily's body.
Ruger lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Guily covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Ruger scores with punches and elbows.
Ruger struggling to keep hold of the position.
Ruger is really struggling to control Guily but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Robbie Ruger just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Guily takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Robbie Ruger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Guily tries to clinch but Ruger moves out of range.

Ruger clinches up with Guily and pushes him back against the cage.
Ruger leaning his opponent against the cage.
Guily wants to break the clinch but can't.
A hook to the body from Ruger.
Guily misses with a short punch on the inside.
Ruger unloads a knee to the mid-section. Guily lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Ruger keeps control of Guily as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ruger with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Ruger lands an elbow that stopped Guily in his tracks for a moment.

Ruger gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Guily regains guard.
Guily is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ruger wants to control from the top but Guily keeps moving.
Ruger is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Guily can do to turn this around?
Guily looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Ruger has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ruger creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Guily's defenses.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Ruger for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Guily wants a takedown but no success here.
Nice elbow from Ruger.
Ruger lands a hook to the side of the head.

Ruger breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ruger closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Guily is looking to reverse the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ruger controls the position.
Guily wants to control but Ruger postures up.

Guily tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ruger presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Ruger wants to control the pace but Guily is squirming around nicely.
Ruger controlling the pace for now.
Ruger trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The referee warns Guily that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Ruger prevents Guily from getting the reversal.
Ruger controlling from the full mount.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Guily is trying to escape the mount.
Guily is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Ruger with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Guily tries to lock up and control but Ruger gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Guily is squirming around, avoiding Ruger's attempts to control the action.
Ruger lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Guily hang on?

Ruger looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Ruger looking to ground and pound but Guily is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruger wants to control the pace but Guily is squirming around nicely.
Ruger content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ruger throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Ruger can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Guily is looking to escape.
Guily tries to hold on but Ruger pushes him away.
Ruger lands with some strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Guily is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Robbie Ruger showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ruger has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
