PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chung Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vince Pappale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vince Pappale will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chung Dunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vince Pappale!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pappale moves into the clinch.
Dunn is trying to break free.
Dunn is looking to take this one to the mat.

Pappale has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dunn uses from the top position.
Dunn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pappale swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dunn could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dunn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Dunn missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Pappale pulls Dunn in to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pappale manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Pappale fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Pappale has closed the distance and engaged Dunn in a clinch.
Dunn tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pappale just stands there and leans against the cage.

Pappale manages to break the clinch.
Dunn misses with a head kick.
Dunn fails to land the takedown.
Pappale wants to counter with a clinch but Dunn pushes him away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chung Dunn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dunn shoots in and drives through. Pappale sprawls well.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pappale.
Dunn is looking to reverse the position.

Dunn gets back to half guard.
Nice strikes from Pappale there.
Dunn tries to kick Pappale off in order to stand up. Pappale Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Dunn throws Pappale to one side and escapes!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pappale tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Pappale shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pappale connects with a nice short shot to Dunn's temple.

Dunn is looking for a sweep. Pappale is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pappale is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Pappale stands up and beckons Dunn to join him on the feet.

Pappale feints and as Dunn raises his hands in defense, Pappale changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pappale wants to get up but he can't break Dunn's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Pappale stands up over Dunn, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Dunn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pappale defends it easily.
Dunn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Pappale wants to control from the top but Dunn keeps moving.
Dunn lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Pappale pushes Dunn off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vince Pappale dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pappale shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pappale throws a head kick but Dunn moves out of range.

Pappale rushes Dunn and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Pappale's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pappale shoots in for a takedown but Dunn shows good takedown defense.
Pappale fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Dunn appears to be looking for a big counter.
Chung Dunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vince Pappale.

Pappale decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Pappale wants to pass the guard but Dunn is defending well.
Dunn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dunn works his way to full guard. Good work.

Dunn has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pappale can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Pappale decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Dunn stuffs the takedown.

Pappale closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dunn's guard.
Pappale is breathing heavily.

Dunn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Dunn has his foot on Pappale's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pappale works his way back into a safe position though.
Pappale stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dunn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pappale stands and steps away. Dunn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Pappale dives in for a single leg takedown but Dunn sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Dunn tries to counter by clinching up but Pappale breaks away and moves out of range.

Pappale dives in and scores a takedown into Dunn's guard.

Dunn has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Pappale off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pappale will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Dunn throws a big counter combination but Pappale scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Dunn stuffs the takedown attempt from Pappale. Pappale gets slowly back to his feet.
Dunn is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Pappale.
Dunn shoots in for a takedown but Pappale shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Pappale throws a series of punches but Dunn moves out of range.
Pappale misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pappale doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dunn counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Dunn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pappale smiles and moves away.

Pappale clinches up with Dunn and pushes him back against the cage.

Pappale successfully pulls guard.
Vince Pappale has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pappale keeping moving, preventing Dunn from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dunn is really struggling to control Pappale but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Pappale is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Vince Pappale will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Pappale is working for takedown but Dunn is calmly controlling the position for now.
Still in the clinch, Pappale scores with a nice short uppercut.
Dunn is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Pappale works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Dunn wants to break the clinch but can't.
Dunn jumps guard but Pappale stands there with Dunn around his waist. Dunn gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Pappale ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pappale no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Pappale has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pappale utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Pappale wants to get back to his feet but Dunn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Pappale wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pappale is trying to keep Dunn in close.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Pappale wants to sweep here but Dunn controlling him for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Vince Pappale seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pappale changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dunn tries to avoid it but Pappale manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dunn to the ground. Dunn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Chung Dunn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vince Pappale.

Pappale scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Dunn is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Pappale is tapping! Great win for Dunn!
