PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Igor Gago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Kvasov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kvasov comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Diskoteka avaria-Nebo kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Roman Kvasov enters the cage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kvasov lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gago circles away quickly and effectively.
Kvasov tries to clinch up but Gago circles away and keeps his distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kvasov looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gago connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Gago closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kvasov quickly recovers to half guard.
Kvasov wants to get back to his feet.
Kvasov keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Gago looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gago is looking for a kimura but Kvasov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gago to get the leverage.

Gago is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kvasov sees it coming and defends easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Gago scores with a takedown into Kvasov's guard.
Kvasov is looking to stand up but Gago isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gago drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kvasov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kvasov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kvasov!

Gago tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Kvasov easily slips into full mount!
Gago is squirming around, avoiding Kvasov's attempts to control the action.

Kvasov stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Gago has managed to clinch.
Gago jumps guard but Kvasov stands there with Gago around his waist. Gago gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Kvasov lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Gago throws an elbow but it misses.
Kvasov tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Gago shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gago wants to control from the top but Kvasov keeps moving.
Gago missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Gago is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kvasov can do to turn this around?

Gago is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gago postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kvasov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gago, into his guard.

Kvasov is looking to stand up but Gago won't let him.

Kvasov connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kvasov has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Gago finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Kvasov is looking for the big counter here.
Gago is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kvasov's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Gago connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Kvasov scrambles back to his feet.

Kvasov rushes Gago and presses him up against the cage.

Kvasov goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Gago has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kvasov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Gago drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kvasov pulls his leg out and moves away.

Gago shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kvasov but Kvasov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gago uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kvasov.

Igor Gago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kvasov bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gago's head backwards.

Gago fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kvasov to the ground. Gago is now in Kvasov's guard.

Kvasov is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Gago presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Gago escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gago slips a jab and a cross from Kvasov.
Kvasov feints and then cracks Gago's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gago down.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gago closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Gago shoots in and drives through. Kvasov sprawls well.
Kvasov looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Kvasov lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
A bone on bone clash there as Gago blocks the leg kick.
Gago wants to clinch up but Kvasov keeps it at a distance.

Kvasov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kvasov has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Gago is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Roman Kvasov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Gago shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kvasov sprawls well. Kvasov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gago gets slowly back to his feet.

Gago takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Gago is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kvasov looks like he's trying to stand up.
Kvasov is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Gago is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kvasov has managed to free his arm - good work.

Kvasov manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Gago keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kvasov.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kvasov lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Gago backwards.

A short right hand to the side of the head by Kvasov.

Gago's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Kvasov digs a right hand underneath Gago's ribcage. Gago let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Kvasov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kvasov lands a jab.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gago closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.


It looks like Igor Gago has been cut.

Gago dives in for a single leg takedown but Kvasov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Roman Kvasov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kvasov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
