PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Boggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ali Aliev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boggs comes to the cage accompanied by "Miami Vice Theme" by Jan Hammer. Tyson Boggs had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 15 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tyson Boggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ali Aliev!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aliev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boggs pinned against the cage. Boggs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Boggs looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Aliev throws a combination that misses

and Boggs counters with a takedown into side control.
Aliev is trying to control Boggs's posture but Boggs avoids it.
Boggs sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Aliev is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aliev wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Aliev is looking for a sweep.

We've been hearing that Boggs has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Aliev is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Boggs off and has taken his back!

Boggs defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
Aliev is adopting a defensive guard.

Aliev is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Boggs is controlling him.
Aliev looking to hit a scissor sweep but Boggs is one step ahead there.

Aliev wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Aliev avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Boggs.
Aliev felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Aliev keeps Boggs under control for a moment.
Aliev wants to get back to his feet.
Aliev is trying to control Boggs's posture but Boggs avoids it.

Aliev tries to pull guard but Boggs won't allow it.

Aliev jumps into guard, dragging Boggs to the mat.

Aliev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boggs makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Aliev is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Aliev throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Boggs escapes and throws Aliev's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Aliev tries to bench press Boggs off him but Boggs keeps the position.
Aliev wants to control but Boggs postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aliev tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Boggs wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Aliev manages to work his way to half guard, despite Boggs's best efforts.

Boggs is trying to work for a kimura but Aliev is defending well.
Aliev tries to roll over but Boggs keeps him under control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aliev moves into full guard.
Aliev trying to keep a closed guard but Boggs is proving a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Aliev gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Boggs moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Aliev has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Boggs after a bit of a struggle.
Tyson Boggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ali Aliev.

Boggs has clasped his hands together around Aliev's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Aliev is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

A close second round but Ali Aliev will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Aliev tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Boggs smiles and moves away.
Tyson Boggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ali Aliev.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Aliev tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Boggs counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Boggs.
Aliev is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Aliev can do anything to dispel that myth.
Aliev is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Aliev has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Boggs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Aliev is striking off his back. Boggs thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Aliev wants to get back to his feet.
Aliev controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Aliev is trying to stand back up but Boggs is controlling him

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Boggs counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Boggs is standing up over Aliev. Aliev looks to escape but Boggs dives into side control.

Aliev manages to get back to half guard.

Aliev wants to get back to full guard.
Aliev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boggs is working away from the top position though.
Tyson Boggs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Tyson Boggs showed his dominance in that final round.
