Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eugeniy Akulenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Alaniz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Akulenko might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Cowboys From Hell. Alaniz is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Beck - Loser . Charlie Alaniz has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Eugeniy Akulenko's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 13 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eugeniy Akulenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Charlie Alaniz!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Akulenko.
Akulenko fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Alaniz checks it well.
Alaniz changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Akulenko throws the kick towards the body but Alaniz avoids it.

Akulenko moves into the clinch successfully.
Alaniz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Akulenko smiles and moves away.
Akulenko has been working on his boxing with his coaches at St Petersburg MMA Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Akulenko stuns Alaniz with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Akulenko scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Alaniz shoots in but no luck this time.

Akulenko looks to land a left hand but Alaniz moved out of range nicely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Alaniz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Akulenko pulls his leg out and moves away.

Akulenko will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Akulenko manages to reverse the position and now he's in Alaniz's guard. Nice work there by Akulenko.
Our spies down at at Russian Fighting Community Gym inform us that Alaniz has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Alaniz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Akulenko defends well.

Akulenko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alaniz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alaniz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Akulenko avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Alaniz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Akulenko as he avoids it easily.
Akulenko looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Akulenko lands a really nice looking cross but Alaniz seems unphased.

Akulenko lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Alaniz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Akulenko walks away with a smile on his face. Alaniz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Akulenko lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Alaniz backwards.
Akulenko scores with a knee to the head.
Akulenko tries a knee to the head but Alaniz blocks it.
Alaniz jumps guard but Akulenko turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Akulenko lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Alaniz to his knees! Akulenko keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eugeniy Akulenko!
Eugeniy Akulenko decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
The defeated Charlie Alaniz had this to say: 'congratulations, who will the next one to beat me?'.
