The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Hishaam looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hishaam moves into the clinch successfully.
Hishaam has had enough of the clinch but Kovalev keeps him there for the moment.
Kovalev wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
A nice left hand lands by Hishaam.

Kovalev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hishaam throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kovalev tries to counter with a takedown but Hishaam is quick to defend against it.
Kovalev walks into a jab.
Hishaam tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kovalev manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sloppy strikes from Hishaam. Those never looked like landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hishaam lands a jab.
Kovalev fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hishaam uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kovalev.

Hishaam takes the fight into the clinch.
Hishaam has Kovalev pressed against the cage, preventing Kovalev from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Hishaam lands with a left to the head.

Hishaam escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kovalev avoids a punch combination nicely.

Hishaam tries to bum rush Kovalev with a series of wild strikes but Kovalev uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kovalev displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hishaam throws out the jab.
Kovalev throws a hook but Hishaam blocks it.
Hishaam lands with a straight right. Kovalev didn't see that one coming.
Kovalev walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Hishaam drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Kovalev swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Hishaam's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
