PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Squidward Tortellini (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jabuba Mbele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tortellini comes to the cage accompanied by The Krusty Krab Pizza by Spongebob Squarepants. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Squidward Tortellini!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jabuba Mbele!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mbele tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mbele is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mbele gets caught flat footed, as Tortellini shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Tortellini might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tortellini wants to pass the guard but Mbele is keeping the position.

Tortellini drops back looking for a leg! Mbele is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mbele manages to kick Tortellini off! Tortellini jumps back into Mbele's guard.
Mbele looking for a sweep. Not yet Mbele, not yet.

Tortellini drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mbele looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mbele looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mbele!
Mbele wants to stand but Tortellini has his arm trapped.
Mbele connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Tortellini some visible discomfort.

Tortellini regains half guard.
Mbele seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tortellini does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Tortellini working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mbele doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mbele manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tortellini is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Tortellini is breathing heavily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mbele stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tortellini swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mbele advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mbele tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Tortellini.

Mbele is looking for a kimura here.

Tortellini wants to get back to full guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mbele connects with a nice short shot to Tortellini's temple.

Mbele thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tortellini is on top in guard.
Mbele looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tortellini is one step ahead there.
Tortellini wants to pass the guard but Mbele is keeping the position.
Mbele is trying to control the position but Tortellini postures up.

Tortellini is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mbele stands up.
Tortellini looks to land a combination but Mbele avoids it well.
No luck for Tortellini with that takedown attempt.
Mbele scores with a head kick.

Tortellini drives through with a takedown into guard.

Tortellini is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Squidward Tortellini will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Mbele scores with a kick to the midsection.
Tortellini throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mbele's waist but Mbele gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tortellini off to one side.

and Tortellini counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mbele!
Mbele keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Mbele is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Tortellini looking to secure an arm triangle but Mbele defends it well.
Tortellini avoids the attempt from Mbele to control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mbele is desperately trying to improve his position but Tortellini has a good base and remains in mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tortellini swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Mbele is now in Tortellini's guard. A big mistake from Tortellini there, giving up the dominant position!

Squidward Tortellini overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tortellini is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mbele tries to free his leg and advance position but Tortellini is retaining full guard.

Tortellini looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mbele is one step ahead there.

Tortellini looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Mbele is defending well. Tortellini quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Mbele has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Tortellini celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
