PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Buru Doragon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marc Schultze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marc Schultze has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Buru Doragon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marc Schultze!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schultze drives through with a takedown into guard.
Schultze stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Doragon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Schultze slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Doragon tries to strike from the bottom.
Doragon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Schultze is stalling in the full guard.
Schultze tries to free his leg and advance position but Doragon is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schultze's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Doragon is on top in guard.

Schultze looking for a sweep. Not yet Schultze, not yet.
Schultze has Doragon pulled in close to control his posture.
Schultze lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Schultze controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Doragon has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Schultze must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Schultze's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Schultze stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Doragon swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Doragon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Schultze instigates a clinch.
Doragon is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Schultze prevents the takedown attempt.
Doragon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Schultze walks away with a smile on his face. Doragon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Buru Doragon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Schultze ducks right into an uppercut from Doragon.
Schultze tries to clinch there but Doragon circles away.
Schultze walks into a left hand.
Schultze displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Doragon.
Doragon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Schultze circles away quickly and effectively.

Schultze drives through with a takedown into Doragon's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Schultze slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Schultze is looking to work some ground and pound but Doragon has wrist control.
Schultze slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
It looks like Schultze might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Doragon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schultze is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marc Schultze dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Schultze scores with a decent looking hook.

Schultze bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Schultze controls the position.
Doragon dodges the ground and pound from Schultze.
Schultze in side control, just content to control the action for now.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schultze is continuing to stall.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Doragon gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Schultze not doing much here.
Let's hope that Schultze has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Schultze rushes Doragon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Schultze gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Schultze thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Doragon preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schultze perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Schultze not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Schultze has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Doragon wants to sweep but Schultze has passed to side control!
A lull in the action here as Schultze stalls from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Doragon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Schultze off and has taken his back!

Schultze can't escape the position.

Doragon working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Schultze trying to control the action but Doragon just sinks the hooks in.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marc Schultze showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Schultze stuffs the takedown attempt from Doragon. Doragon gets slowly back to his feet.
Buru Doragon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Schultze misses with a two punch combination.
Doragon pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Schultze back to the cage. Doragon follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Doragon tries to keep at a distance but Schultze has taken the fight into the clinch.
Schultze stalls.
Doragon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Schultze gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Schultze takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Doragon is trying to pull guard but Schultze has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Buru Doragon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Schultze has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Doragon clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Schultze has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Doragon's body.

Doragon looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Schultze controls the action.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Schultze.
Yet more stalling tactics from Schultze.
I really don't envy Doragon right now.

Schultze gets his hands free as Doragon looks to control.
Schultze keeps control of the position easily here as Doragon tries to buck him off.
Buru Doragon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Schultze working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Marc Schultze is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Marc Schultze comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Schultze winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
