PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lane Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kip Nip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lane Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kip Nip!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nip closes the distance and pushes Perry back into the cage.
Perry tries to pull guard but Nip forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Perry drops down looking for an ankle pick but Nip pulls his leg out and moves away.
Perry tries to clinch but Nip is having none of it.
Nip throws a sloppy head kick and Perry moves out of range easily.

Nip takes the fight into the clinch.

Perry breaks the clinch.
Nip fakes the leg kick and cracks Perry in the body.
Kip Nip seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nip throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Nip thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Perry if he has to take too many more of those.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch but Nip swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Perry is looking to clinch but Nip is avoiding it.
Nip goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Good standup being displayed there by Nip as he connects with a hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nip throws a one two combo.
Nip keeps Perry at a distance using the push kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Nip has Perry up against the cage in a clinch.

Nip manages to break the clinch.
Nip scoring well with a low kick there.
Nip scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Perry takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch but Nip swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nip throws a head kick that misses.
Nip swats away the attempt to clinch by Perry.
Nip misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nip tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Perry was well out of range. Poor timing from Nip.

Nip instigates a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Perry.
Perry could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Nip jumps guard and drags Perry to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Nip trying to keep a closed guard but Perry is proving a slippery customer.

Perry drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Perry jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Nip working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Perry.

Perry thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Perry stopping the sweep attempt from Nip.
Perry loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nip is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Nip is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nip tries to stand and escape but Perry is controlling the position.
Perry gets back to full guard.
Nip trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Nip in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Nip throws an elbow that misses. Perry uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nip's guard. Nice move by Perry!

Nip wants to stand up but Perry is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nip manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Perry manages to get himself to full guard.

Nip throws an elbow that misses. Perry uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nip's guard. Nice move by Perry!

Perry postures up and lands a big shot to Nip's brow.

Perry drops back looking for a leg! Nip is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nip manages to kick Perry off! Perry jumps back into Nip's guard.
Perry throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perry throwing strikes but missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kip Nip dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Nip closes the distance and pushes Perry back into the cage.
Perry drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Nip successfully pulls guard.

Nip is looking for a triangle but Perry pushes his legs off easily.
Perry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Perry is working Nip over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Perry trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nip wants to get back to his feet but Perry is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Perry won't allow Nip to sweep him here.
Perry postures up.

Nip is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Nip lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Perry has control of Nip's left arm, preventing Nip from doing any damage.
Nip wants to pass the guard but Perry is keeping the position.
Nip slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Nip drops back, looking for a kneebar! Perry looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Perry looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Perry!

Lane Perry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Perry stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nip misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Perry takes a kick to the side of the head.
Kip Nip is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Perry tries to clinch but Nip moves out of range.
A little jabbing left from Nip on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Nip closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Perry has Nip pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Nip manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lane Perry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perry goes for a takedown attempt but Nip pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Nip avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nip tries to counter by closing the distance.

Nip moves into the clinch successfully.
Perry fails to pull guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nip has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Perry is trying to keep an underhook but Nip manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Nip is working for a kimura but Perry is defending it quite comfortably.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nip is trying to control. Perry wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Nip not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Perry slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Perry has his foot on Nip's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nip works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nip controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perry is on top in guard.

Nip is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Nip is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Perry defends well.

Perry gets to his feet. Nip looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Kip Nip seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nip has taken the fight to the clinch.
Perry drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Perry tries for a takedown. No joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kip Nip showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!



Perry tries to keep at a distance but Nip has taken the fight into the clinch.
Nip is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Nip throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Perry breaks from the clinch.
Perry tries to clinch there but Nip circles away.
Nip has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Perry fails with an attempt to clinch.

Nip instigates a clinch.
Perry is looking to take this one to the mat.
Perry wants a takedown but no success here.

It looks like Lane Perry has been cut.
Perry fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nip manages to avoid it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Perry tries for a takedown but Nip manages to get underhooks.

Nip breaks from the clinch.
Perry takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Perry is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Nip pushes Perry up against the cage in a clinch.

Nip wants the takedown. Perry is fighting it off but Nip persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Perry's guard against the cage.
Nip controls from within his opponent's guard.
Nip wants to control from the top but Perry keeps moving.

Nip advances to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nip is keen to just control but Perry is a slippery customer.
Nip with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Perry tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Nip has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Perry tries to reverse the position but Nip maintains control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nip throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Nip wants to control the pace but Perry is squirming around nicely.
Perry might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
A nice elbow there by Nip.
Perry bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Nip looking for a sweep. Not yet Nip, not yet.
Nip controls Perry momentarily but Perry frees himself.
Nip working a defensive guard but Perry passes into half guard.

Perry throwing shots but Nip is blocking nicely.
Nip wants to control but Perry is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Perry seems to be looking for submissions.
Nip moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Nip is trying to control the position from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nip is on top in guard.

Lane Perry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kip Nip comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nip has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
