PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Olympus Mons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Kushman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Olympus Mons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Larry Kushman!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kushman instigates a clinch.

Mons on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Kushman tightens his grip and picks Mons up, before dumping him to the ground. Mons manages to land in guard.

Mons can't keep his opponent in guard - Kushman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Mons's coaches at Gutz Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kushman working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Mons is controlling an arm, preventing Kushman from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Kushman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mons is looking to escape.
Kushman is looking to work his way around to Mons's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Kushman wants to control the pace but Mons is squirming around nicely.

Kushman goes for an armbar but Mons turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Mons.

The fight stays on the outside here - Mons looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kushman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mons pinned against the cage. Mons gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kushman moves into range and clinches up with Mons.
Kushman tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Mons avoids it.
Mons misses with an elbow over the top.
Kushman swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kushman is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mons is defending well for now.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kushman throws a lazy right hand but Mons sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mons is looking to counter the offense by Kushman and move into the clinch.

Kushman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mons moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Mons gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Mons takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mons seems to have got his legs back now.
