Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Korey James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Cale Downes!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Downes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from James.
Downes changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Downes is defended easily by James.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Downes has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
James throws a nice looking combination but Downes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
James misses with a hook

and Downes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Downes.

James has his foot on Downes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Downes works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Downes cracks James with a solid left hand.
Downes trying to control but James is working from the bottom.
Downes landing with the ground and pound.

James is looking for a triangle but Downes pushes his legs off easily.

Downes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Downes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
James keeping moving, preventing Downes from controlling successfully.

Downes content to stall in guard here.

Downes got a little sloppy there for a moment and James has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Downes has managed to get both his arms back between James's legs - danger averted.
Downes tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.
Downes scoring with punches to the head and body.
Downes lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Downes drops back looking for a leg! James is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and James manages to kick Downes off! Downes jumps back into James's guard.

Downes is looking to advance position but James won't allow it.
James looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Downes gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Downes drives through and clinches with James against the cage.
James tries to pull guard but Downes holds him up against the cage and eventually James drops back down to his feet.
James throws a head punch that misses.

James is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Downes has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. James is looking to defend but Downes has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for James! Downes pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, James taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Cale Downes!
