PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Welch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Welch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk misses with a looping left.
Hawk shoots in looking for a takedown. Welch tries to sprawl out of it but Hawk keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Welch manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Welch feinted with a counter takedown.
Hawk rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Welch moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hawk clinches up against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Welch.
Hawk wants to take the fight to the mat but Welch manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Welch's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hawk is defending well against a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Welch is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hawk gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hawk letting Welch take a breather here.
Welch looking to throw knees to the head but Hawk is blocking nicely.
Welch is trying to drag Hawk to the mat but Hawk just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Welch. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Welch lands a shoulder strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Welch ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Welch no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Welch wants to sweep here but Hawk controlling him for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Welch is on top in guard.

Welch throws a strike but Hawk rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Welch will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Welch has Hawk pulled in close to control his posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawk chips away with some ground and pound.
Welch is adopting a defensive guard.
Hawk connects with a couple of short punches.
Welch pulls Hawk in close to prevent any damage.
Hawk lands a couple of digs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hawk trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Welch looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Welch is trying to keep Hawk in close.
Welch lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Welch in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Welch postures up and lands a big shot to Hawk's brow.
Welch throwing strikes but missing.
Welch cracks Hawk with a solid left hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Welch thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Welch postures up in Hawk's guard and throws a big left but Hawk blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Welch stands up from Hawk's guard - Welch perhaps looking for a knockout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Welch, as that shot connected.
Hawk lands with a nice combination. Welch backs away looking to recover.


Welch is rocked!
Hawk connects with a superb combination that knocks Welch out cold! The referee charges across the mat and tackles Hawk before he can land any more shots to the unconscious Welch!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Mike Hawk!
