PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Beast Riley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Woodhall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Beast Riley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Woodhall!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Chris Dean and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Riley closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Woodhall did well to prevent Riley getting side control.

Woodhall kicks Riley off and gets back to his feet.
Woodhall scores with a hook to the body. Riley takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Riley misses with a takedown attempt
and Woodhall counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Woodhall tries to sprawl but Riley drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Woodhall kicks off Riley and gets to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Woodhall gets caught napping as Riley dives in and scores a takedown. Woodhall manages to retain guard.

Woodhall kicks Riley off and gets to his feet.
Riley slaps away a takedown attempt from Woodhall, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Riley darts in and clinches Woodhall up against the cage.
Woodhall is looking to control Riley's arms but Riley gets an underhook and turns him. Now Woodhall has his back to the cage.

Woodhall is fighting off a takedown attempt but Riley is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Woodhall to the mat. Woodhall regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Woodhall uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Woodhall throws a nice looking combination but Riley bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Riley goes for a double leg but Woodhall avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Woodhall continues to drive forward.
Woodhall shoots in but Riley avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Riley takes the fight into the clinch.
Riley works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Riley is working for takedown but Woodhall is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Beast Riley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Riley tries to pull guard but Woodhall won't allow it.

Riley gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Woodhall regains guard.

Woodhall is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Riley presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Woodhall is looking to take this one to the mat.
Riley tries to circle away but Woodhall has him pinned against the cage.
Riley has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Woodhall after a bit of a struggle.
Riley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Woodhall blocks an elbow strike from Riley.

Woodhall pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Woodhall. No joy for Riley on that attempt.
Woodhall shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Riley sprawls well. Riley wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Woodhall gets slowly back to his feet.

Riley tries to clinch but Woodhall moves out of range.
Riley keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Woodhall pulls guard effortlessly.
Riley has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Woodhall is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Woodhall is adopting a defensive guard.

Woodhall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Woodhall has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Woodhall keeps control of Riley as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Riley is trying to pull guard but Woodhall has him pressed against the cage.
Woodhall tries to score a body lock takedown but Riley shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Riley fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Riley gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Woodhall.

Riley's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Woodhall closes the distance and clinches up with Riley, looking for a takedown. Woodhall pushes Riley against the cage but Riley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Riley seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Beast Riley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Woodhall.

Riley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Woodhall uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Riley lands a decent punch to the body there.
Woodhall not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Riley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Woodhall manages to get himself to full guard.

Riley throws a strike but Woodhall rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Riley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Woodhall on the ground.
Riley controls Woodhall momentarily but Woodhall frees himself.

Riley is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Woodhall is aware though and is defending well.

Riley wants to stand up but Woodhall is controlling him.

Woodhall slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Woodhall throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Riley works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Woodhall is pushing down on Riley's leg trying to pass to half guard. Riley is fighting to maintain full guard but Woodhall has managed to sneak the leg through.
Woodhall tries to pass the half guard into mount. Riley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dave Woodhall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

As Woodhall tries to get set, Riley tries to push him back and clinch up but Woodhall manages to avoid the attempt.

Riley will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Woodhall rushes Riley and presses him up against the cage.

Woodhall ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Woodhall no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Woodhall is on top in guard.

Riley wants to control but Woodhall passes easily into half guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Woodhall is working for a submission of some sort.
