PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robinson Crowell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gil Brother (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robinson Crowell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gil Brother!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crowell shoots in and bounces Brother off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crowell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Brother is keeping the position for now.

Brother had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Crowell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Brother Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Crowell's back instead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brother is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Crowell knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Crowell for a finish.
Crowell is trying to break free.
Crowell is trying to get back to his feet but Brother has full control of the position and if anything, Crowell has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Crowell turns into Brother and is now in his guard.
Crowell won't allow Brother to sweep him here.
Brother looks gassed!
Crowell looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Brother working for a triangle but Crowell defends it easily.
Brother has a closed guard, preventing Crowell from standing up.

Crowell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Crowell controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brother keeping moving, preventing Crowell from controlling successfully.

Brother looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Crowell has picked Brother up and slammed him! Brother can't keep hold of the triangle and Crowell manages to pass to side control!
Brother is looking for a sweep.
Crowell controlling the position.
Brother tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Crowell scores with a couple of short elbows.
Brother takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Brother looking for a sweep but Crowell has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Crowell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brother on the ground.
Crowell looking to control but Brother is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Brother working to try and regain half guard.
Crowell controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Crowell stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Brother gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Crowell wants to control from the top but Brother keeps moving.

Brother is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Brother looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Crowell trying to control the position from guard on top but Brother is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robinson Crowell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Brother fails with the takedown

and Crowell holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Brother tries to break the clinch but Crowell is controlling the position.
Brother wants to break the clinch but can't.
Crowell is trying to drag Brother to the mat but Brother just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Brother blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Crowell fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Brother is trying to break the clinch but Crowell has him pressed against the cage.
Crowell looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robinson Crowell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crowell has Brother pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Brother manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Crowell breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brother darts in and clinches Crowell up against the cage.
Brother wants to break free but Crowell has control.

Crowell wants the takedown. Brother is fighting it off but Crowell persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Brother's guard against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Brother manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Crowell manages to get himself to full guard.
Brother tries to free his leg and advance position but Crowell is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Brother drops back, looking for a kneebar! Crowell looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Crowell looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Crowell!

Crowell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Crowell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Crowell takes a little break here. Brother wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Crowell wants to control but Brother is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Brother is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Crowell's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Brother looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Brother working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Crowell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Brother is tightening it up a little... Crowell has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Crowell reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Crowell taps out! nice BJJ there by Brother!
