PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Hendrix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee has chosen Skepta - Shut Down as his entrance music. James Lee told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jimmy Hendrix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Lee!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hendrix doesn't seem bothered though.
Hendrix avoids the head kick by Lee.

Hendrix looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Hendrix trying to control but Lee is working from the bottom.
Hendrix postures up.
Hendrix not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee looks winded!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee trying to keep a closed guard but Hendrix is proving a slippery customer.
Lee wants to sweep here but Hendrix controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hendrix's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Lee drives through and clinches with Hendrix against the cage.
Hendrix misses with a short punch on the inside.
Hendrix misses with the head strike.

Hendrix successfully pulls guard.
Lee won't allow Hendrix to sweep him here.

Lee is looking to work some ground and pound but Hendrix has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hendrix shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Lee counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Hendrix gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hendrix pushes Lee off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Lee looks to throw the jab but Hendrix is out of range.

Lee flicks out a counter leg kick but Hendrix steps away.

Lee wants to control but Hendrix is keeping him busy.

Hendrix is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Lee is controlling him well.
Lee wants to control for a moment but Hendrix uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close round but James Lee will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hendrix appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Hendrix seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lee for as long as he can get away with.

Hendrix's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Lee has eaten all the pies!
Lee misses with a leg kick

and Hendrix counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lee won't be happy with that.

Hendrix remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Lee is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hendrix's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hendrix tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lee swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Hendrix. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hendrix drives through and clinches with Lee against the cage.
Hendrix has a couple of punches blocked by Lee.

Hendrix's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hendrix slips a jab and a cross from Lee.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lee gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hendrix to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Lee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jimmy Hendrix will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Lee slaps away a takedown attempt from Hendrix, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Lee darts in and clinches Hendrix up against the cage.
The referee calls for Hendrix to work.

Lee takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hendrix is doing well to control the position and prevent Lee from advancing to side control.

Lee is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Lee is trying to work for a kimura but Hendrix is defending well.

Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Hendrix is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Hendrix will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lee forces Hendrix back against the cage and clinches.
Hendrix misses with a knee strike.
Hendrix misses with a hook from the clinch.
Lee is trying to break the clinch but Hendrix is controlling him.

Lee pulls guard successfully.
Hendrix seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Hendrix lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hendrix is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hendrix missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Hendrix slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lee has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, James Lee started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
