PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Agustin Carlson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Delvos Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Belfort's choice of entrance music: I will survive. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Agustin Carlson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Delvos Belfort!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Belfort scores with a takedown into Carlson's guard.
Belfort tries to free his leg and advance position but Carlson is retaining full guard.
Belfort lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Belfort looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
It looks like Belfort might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carlson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Belfort presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Carlson is trying to force a seperation but Belfort has the dominant position.

Belfort has hold of one of Carlson's legs. Carlson is fighting the takedown attempt but Belfort gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Belfort's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Carlson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Carlson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Belfort controls the pace.

Carlson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Belfort doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Belfort manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Belfort is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Belfort shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carlson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Carlson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Belfort tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Belfort has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Carlson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Belfort works to advance to full mount. Carlson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Delvos Belfort dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Belfort stuffs the takedown attempt from Carlson. Carlson gets slowly back to his feet.

Belfort feints and as Carlson raises his hands in defense, Belfort changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belfort works over Carlson with some ground and pound from guard.
Belfort controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carlson wants to sweep here but Belfort controlling him for the moment.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Belfort cracks Carlson with a solid left hand.

Belfort is continuing to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Belfort keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Carlson's head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Delvos Belfort showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Belfort looking to score a takedown here. Carlson is defending well but Belfort drives through and ends up in Carlson's guard.
Belfort is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Belfort postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The adventures of Belfort the control monster continue. Boring.

Carlson is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Belfort dives into side control.

Belfort cracks Carlson with a big right hand but Carlson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Carlson is looking to regain half guard here but Belfort keeps moving and retains side control.

Belfort goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Carlson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Belfort's guard! Nice work there by Carlson!

Belfort looking for a guillotine here but Carlson defends easily.
Carlson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Belfort bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carlson's guard.


Carlson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Belfort has picked Carlson up and slammed him! Carlson can't keep hold of the triangle and Belfort manages to pass to side control!

Carlson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Belfort controls the position.
Belfort in side control lands a decent elbow.


Carlson is rocked!
Belfort is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Carlson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Carlson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Belfort has just dragged him back down to the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Delvos Belfort comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Belfort has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
