Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Leonel Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Strickland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Strickland is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Drake & Future - Big Rings. Gabriel Strickland has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gabriel Strickland!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Anthony Taglia and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Strickland looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cox!
Cox is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Strickland has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Strickland tries for a kimura but Cox is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Cox's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cox could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cox is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Strickland is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Strickland working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Cox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Strickland is looking for a kimura but Cox is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Strickland to get the leverage.

Cox wants to control but Strickland is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Strickland looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Strickland is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Strickland changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cox tries to avoid it but Strickland manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cox to the ground. Cox escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Strickland shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cox sprawls well. Cox wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Strickland gets slowly back to his feet.

Leonel Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Strickland.

Cox has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Strickland regains guard immediately.

Horrible takedown attempt by Strickland or perhaps it was just good defense by Cox, which made it look bad.

Strickland throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cox tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Strickland is in Cox's guard.
Strickland is breathing heavily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cox is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Strickland rushes Cox and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Strickland is trying to break the clinch but Cox is controlling him.

Cox swings wildly with an uppercut but Strickland uses good head movement to avoid it.
Cox drops down looking for an ankle pick but Strickland pulls his leg out and moves away.
Gabriel Strickland seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Strickland with that takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cox enables Strickland to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cox manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cox wants to stand but Strickland is controlling the position.

Cox pushes Strickland off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Strickland fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
It looked like Cox was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Strickland shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cox manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cox is adopting a defensive guard.
Cox wants to get back to his feet but Strickland is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Strickland has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cox can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Strickland controls the pace.

Strickland closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cox quickly recovers to half guard.

Strickland isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cox stacks Strickland on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cox!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Strickland can do anything to dispel that myth.

Strickland is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Cox jumps into side control!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Strickland tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cox wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Strickland manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Strickland seems to be working for a kimura but Cox defends the submission attempt.

Gabriel Strickland is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Gabriel Strickland.

Gabriel Strickland tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
