The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gonzaga feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gonzaga is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shamrock's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shamrock's back!

Gonzaga is looking for the choke from the back position but Shamrock is controlling his hands well.

Gonzaga has control of Shamrock's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Shamrock regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shamrock is controlling an arm, preventing Gonzaga from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gonzaga has hold of Shamrock's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Shamrock manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
