PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raul Michael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alf Lahara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Raul Michael!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alf Lahara!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lahara lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Michael circles away quickly and effectively.
Lahara shoots in looking for a takedown but Michael manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lahara's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Michael leaves Lahara with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Lahara shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Michael as he jumps to the side.
Michael appears to be looking for a big counter.
Raul Michael has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alf Lahara.

and Michael counters by moving into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Michael is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Lahara is defending well for now.
Lahara fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Michael breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lahara dodges the punch combination from Michael.
Lahara is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Lahara should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Lahara shoots in for a double leg but Michael sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lahara goes for a double leg but Michael avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Michael continues to drive forward.
Lahara shoots for a takedown but Michael saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Lahara tries to close the distance and clinch but Michael swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Michael tries to bum rush Lahara with a series of wild strikes but Lahara uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Alf Lahara seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lahara throws a head kick that Michael semi-blocks.


It looks like Raul Michael has been cut.
Lahara misses with a takedown attempt
and Michael counters with a right hand to the body.
Michael swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Lahara holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Lahara gets through Michael's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Lahara pulls guard effortlessly.
Lahara looks winded!
Lahara trying to keep a closed guard but Michael is proving a slippery customer.
Lahara looking for a sweep. Not yet Lahara, not yet.
Michael in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Lahara wants to sweep but no luck.
Michael is looking to work some ground and pound but Lahara has wrist control.

Michael will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Lahara is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Michael misses with a series of wild punches.
Lahara throws out a counter right but Michael avoids it with no problem.

Lahara closes the distance and pushes Michael back into the cage.
Michael tries to pull guard but Lahara forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Stalling in the clinch from Michael.
Michael tries for a takedown. No joy.

Lahara breaks the clinch.
Lahara throws the kick towards the body but Michael avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lahara misses with a takedown attempt - Michael sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Lahara darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Michael has hold of Lahara's hands but Lahara slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lahara works his way into full mount!
Michael is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alf Lahara will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Raul Michael's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


No luck with that takedown attempt from Lahara.
Michael misses with a two punch combination.
Despite the aggression on Lahara's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Lahara closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Michael actively working from the bottom here.

Lahara is trying to work for a kimura but Michael is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lahara is trying to control the action in half guard but Michael is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Alf Lahara has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lahara tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Michael is in trouble now - Lahara has advanced to mount!

Lahara avoids the attempt from Michael to control.
Lahara is landing with some decent strikes but Michael is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Lahara cracks Michael with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
