PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calvin Larios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Larios has chosen Sige Lang - Quest as his entrance music. Calvin Larios will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Patrick Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Calvin Larios!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crane closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Larios did well to prevent Crane getting side control.

Larios kicks Crane off and gets back to his feet.
Larios shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Crane pinned against the cage. Crane gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Larios works over Crane's head and body with a nice combination.
Larios shoots in and drives through. Crane sprawls well.
Crane drops down looking for a counter takedown but Larios sprawls and moves away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Larios fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Crane really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Patrick Crane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Calvin Larios.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Crane wants to work for an arm triangle but Larios is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Crane is looking to take a break and control but Larios is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Crane is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Larios still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Larios has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Crane isn't going anywhere.

Larios decides to stand back up.
No luck for Larios with that takedown attempt.
Crane appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Larios throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Larios cracks Crane with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Larios tries to sprawl but Crane drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Larios kicks Crane off and gets back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Larios tries to break free but Crane pushes him back against the cage.

Crane has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Larios is trying to keep an underhook but Crane manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Larios kicks off Crane and gets to his feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Larios closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Crane breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Larios throws a series of punches but Crane avoids them all with ease.
Larios misses with a combination
and Crane counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Crane decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Larios manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Crane keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Larios breaks the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Larios dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Crane throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Larios tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Crane is in Larios's guard.

Larios pushes Crane off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Larios throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Crane.

Crane closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Larios to the mat! Larios manages to get full guard.
Crane postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Larios pushes Crane off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Crane shoots in and gets a takedown into Larios's guard.

Larios manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Larios wants to get back to striking at distance but Crane won't allow it.
Larios has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Crane after a bit of a struggle.
Larios looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Crane gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Larios looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Crane is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Larios has managed to free his arm - good work.
Crane will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Crane with the ground and pound but Larios uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Crane postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Crane drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Larios dives on top into guard.

Crane has his hands on Larios's head, controlling the position.

Crane has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Larios can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Crane is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Larios gets to his feet - Crane follows without any prompting.
Larios fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Larios throws a leg kick but Crane sees it coming and moves out of range.
Crane lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Larios misses with a few strikes there.
Crane appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Crane avoids the head kick by Larios.
Crane wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
A nice combination there by Larios.

Larios has taken the fight to the clinch.

Crane letting Larios take a breather here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin Larios showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Crane feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Larios is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Crane presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Crane has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Larios is trying to keep an underhook but Crane manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Larios has one foot on Crane's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Crane shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Larios napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Larios sneaks out the side door and pushes Crane away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Crane tries to close the distance and clinch up but Larios swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Larios shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Crane as he jumps to the side.

Larios instigates a clinch.

Larios's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Larios throws a one two combo.
Crane checks a leg kick nicely.
Calvin Larios seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Larios tries for a takedown but Crane sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Larios looks for a takedown but Crane sprawls well.
As Larios backs away, Crane returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Patrick Crane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Calvin Larios.
Larios changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Larios gets caught flat footed, as Crane shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Larios is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Crane prevents Larios from breaking the clinch.

Crane pulls Larios into guard.

Larios decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Crane takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Larios scores with a three punch combo!
Calvin Larios is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Larios shoots in looking for a takedown. Crane tries to sprawl out of it but Larios keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Crane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Crane darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Larios has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Crane is on him like a limpet, forcing Larios back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Crane has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Larios uses from the top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Calvin Larios comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Larios has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
