Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Royce Vega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Scott Riley!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vega shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Riley defends it nicely.
Riley looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Riley misses with a head kick.
Riley throws a big shot that misses.
Vega shoots in and drives through. Riley sprawls well.
Riley is trying to counter with his kicks.

Riley has taken the fight to the clinch.

Riley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Riley stuffs the takedown.

Vega drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Riley gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Vega is trying to push Riley away but Riley has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Riley is pressed up against the cage. Vega has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Riley down to the mat. Riley avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Riley stuffs the takedown attempt from Vega. Vega gets slowly back to his feet.
Riley leaves Vega with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Riley.
Riley has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
Vega closes this distance looking for a takedown but Riley circles away.

Vega feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Vega is looking to work some ground and pound but Riley has wrist control.

Vega has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vega postures up in Riley's guard and throws a big left but Riley blocks it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Vega is looking to work some ground and pound but Riley has wrist control.

Riley tries to counter with a clinch but Vega shakes him off and moves away.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Vega shoots in for a takedown but Riley shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Vega closes the distance and clinches up with Riley, looking for a takedown. Vega pushes Riley against the cage but Riley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Royce Vega overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Vega misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Riley wants to get back to his feet but Vega drags him back down.
Vega scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Riley to see if he's OK.
Vega throws an elbow but Riley slips to the side and avoids it well.

Vega is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Riley has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vega tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vega has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Vega fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Vega is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Riley's half guard.

Vega seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Riley does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Horrible takedown attempt by Vega or perhaps it was just good defense by Riley, which made it look bad.

Riley tries to lock up and control but Vega gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The referee warns Riley that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
