PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rico Pfeifer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Caeas Liege (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liege has chosen Mausum & Escape as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rico Pfeifer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caeas Liege!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liege swats away the attempt to clinch by Pfeifer.
Pfeifer shoots in but Liege avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Liege changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pfeifer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pfeifer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Pfeifer tries to control but Liege manages to take his back.

Pfeifer defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Liege's arms.
Liege is hanging on to Pfeifer's back as he tries to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pfeifer wants to control his opponent's hands but Liege gets his hands free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pfeifer is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Liege gets his way!
I really don't envy Pfeifer right now.

Liege looking to break Pfeifer's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Pfeifer remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Liege will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Pfeifer is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Liege is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Pfeifer trying to control but not successfully.
Liege has the hooks in. Pfeifer is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Liege doesn't have the hooks in and Pfeifer manages to turn into his guard.
Pfeifer forces his way into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Liege punching from the bottom.
Liege looks gassed!

Pfeifer seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Liege is staying active underneath Pfeifer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Pfeifer is looking for a kimura but Liege is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pfeifer to get the leverage.
Liege tries to get to full guard but Pfeifer has control of the leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pfeifer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Pfeifer is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Liege reverses the position - he's now on top in Pfeifer's guard.
Pfeifer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Liege is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caeas Liege dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Liege scores with a takedown into Pfeifer's guard.
Liege wants to control from the top but Pfeifer keeps moving.

Pfeifer looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Liege in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Liege postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pfeifer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Liege, into his guard.

Pfeifer trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Pfeifer postures up.
Pfeifer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Liege keeping moving, preventing Pfeifer from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pfeifer trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Liege manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Liege thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Pfeifer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Liege doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Pfeifer is tightening it up a little... Liege has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Liege reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Liege taps out! nice BJJ there by Pfeifer!
