PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Piet Kriel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Redding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redding has chosen Alive as his entrance music. Joshua Redding has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Piet Kriel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joshua Redding!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Redding changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kriel fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Redding lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Redding throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kriel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Redding avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Some bone on bone action there as Redding checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Kriel shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Redding sprawls well. Redding wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kriel gets slowly back to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Redding! But no joy.

Redding throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kriel counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Kriel not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Kriel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kriel looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Kriel is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Redding is looking to improve his position.

Kriel seems to be looking for submissions.

Redding is looking to control Kriel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Redding avoid being mounted?

Kriel could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kriel just content to control the position.
Kriel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Redding keeps working.
We've been informed that Redding has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Redding tries to bench press Kriel off him but Kriel keeps the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kriel goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Redding rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kriel's guard! Nice work there by Redding!
Redding stays in close to Kriel's body and controls the position.
Kriel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kriel looking for a sweep. Not yet Kriel, not yet.
Kriel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Redding trying to control the position from guard on top but Kriel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Redding must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kriel looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Redding is defending well. Kriel quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Redding has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kriel celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Piet Kriel!
In defeat, Joshua Redding stepped up to the mic, saying 'Sorry to everyone I let down. I will take this experience, learn from it, and come back like a bat out of hell. You'll all see.'.
