PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leslie Sellers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucas Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leslie Sellers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendes clinches.
Sellers misses with a hook to the ribs.
Mendes is defending well against a takedown attempt.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Mendes avoiding damage.
Sellers is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Mendes is keeping busy.
Mendes lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Sellers.
Sellers dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Mendes - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Sellers has Mendes pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mendes manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendes manages to break the clinch.
Sellers pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Mendes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sellers tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mendes is in Sellers's guard.
Mendes stays in close to Sellers's body and controls the position.

Sellers throws his legs up looking for a submission but Mendes uses it to pass to side control.
Mendes happy to just control the position for now.
Sellers is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sellers manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Mendes seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mendes wants to stand up but Sellers is controlling the position.
Sellers is trying to maintain the position but Mendes is very close to passing his half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mendes in particular looking to stall.
Sellers is trying to control but can't.
Mendes trying to control from half guard but Sellers is working away.
Mendes sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sellers defending well though.

Mendes is thwarting Sellers's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Mendes rushes Sellers and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sellers tries a body shot but Mendes blocks it.
Sellers is trying to pull guard but Mendes has him pressed against the cage.

Sellers has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mendes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Sellers ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sellers no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Mendes is looking to work some ground and pound but Sellers has wrist control.
Mendes trying to control the position from guard on top but Sellers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mendes stays in close to Sellers's body and controls the position.

Mendes stands up from Sellers's guard - Mendes perhaps looking for a knockout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sellers misses with a leg kick.
Mendes changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Mendes closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sellers's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mendes jumps guard and drags Sellers to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mendes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sellers is one step ahead there.
Mendes is adopting a defensive guard.

Sellers stands up and waves to Mendes to follow him.

Mendes drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Sellers tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Sellers struggling a bit here.
Mendes creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Sellers sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Sellers is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Mendes not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mendes is thwarting Sellers's attempts to control the position.
Sellers blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mendes.
Sellers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sellers wants to control but Mendes passes into side.

Sellers throws a body kick that misses.

Mendes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mendes showed some decent athleticism there.

Mendes seems to be looking for submissions.

Sellers is pressing down on Mendes's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Mendes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mendes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Mendes is breathing heavily.
Sellers is trying to keep Mendes in close.
Mendes's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Sellers is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Lucas Mendes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Mendes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sellers wants to sweep here but Mendes controlling him for the moment.
Mendes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sellers swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sellers looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Mendes is defending well. Sellers quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Mendes has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Sellers celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
