PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Dermody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Terkey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Charlie Terkey will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Dermody!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie Terkey!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Terkey closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Terkey throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Terkey tries to move into full mount but can't pass Dermody's legs.
A lull in the action here as Terkey stalls from top position.

Terkey is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dermody is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Terkey tries to move to mount but Dermody blocks the move with his legs.

Terkey working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Terkey wants to take a breather but Dermody manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Terkey.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Terkey wanted to stand there but Dermody had control of the position.
Terkey missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dermody keeping moving, preventing Terkey from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Terkey shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Terkey showed some decent athleticism there.

Dermody wants to control but Terkey is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Terkey wants to control but Dermody is keeping him busy.
Terkey landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Terkey is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Dermody is breathing heavily.
Terkey thows a huge punch but Dermody dodges it nicely.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Terkey tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dermody knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Terkey is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Terkey tries to pass to full mount but Dermody defends it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dermody is doing well to control the position and prevent Terkey from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Terkey is looking to clinch.

Terkey has Dermody up against the cage in a clinch.

Terkey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Dermody gets caught flat footed, as Terkey shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Dermody is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Terkey postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Terkey wants to control from the top but Dermody keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Dermody tries to sprawl but Terkey drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Dermody controlling the position well.
Dermody is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Terkey is looking for a kimura but Dermody is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Terkey to get the leverage.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Terkey decides to return to a standing position.

Terkey bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Terkey swings around for an armbar but Dermody sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Terkey's guard.

Terkey pushes Dermody off and scrambles back to his feet.
Terkey thows a left - swing and a miss!
Dermody misses with a takedown attempt - Terkey sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Charlie Terkey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Terkey looking to score a takedown here. Dermody is defending well but Terkey drives through and ends up in Dermody's guard.

Terkey decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie Terkey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Terkey clinches up with Dermody and pushes him back against the cage.
The referee calls for Terkey to work.

Terkey has hold of one of Dermody's legs. Dermody is fighting the takedown attempt but Terkey gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Terkey wants to get up but he can't break Dermody's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Terkey looking to sit in guard and control but Dermody gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Terkey pushes Dermody off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Dermody gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Terkey to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Terkey wants to get up but he can't break Dermody's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Terkey throws a big right hand that misses.
Terkey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dermody swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Terkey landing some decent shots from guard.
Terkey trying to move into half guard but instead Dermody has managed to sweep!

Terkey wants to stand up but Dermody is controlling him.
Terkey really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dermody. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Terkey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dermody is one step ahead there.

Dermody advances position into side control!
Terkey is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Terkey struggling a bit here.
Terkey felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Dermody tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Terkey is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Dermody asserts his dominance and retains side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Terkey is trying to get back to half guard.
Dermody tries to advance to mount but Terkey denies him.
Terkey is looking for a sweep.

Dermody is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Terkey knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Charlie Terkey comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Terkey has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
