The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Hunter fails in his attempt to clinch.
Drotchie lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters circle momentarily. Hunter darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Hunter tries to clinch but Drotchie moves out of range.

Hunter lands with an uppercut that bounces Drotchie off the cage and back into range.

Drotchie tries to move into range but Hunter moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Hunter darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Drotchie throws a jab when Hunter was well out of range.
Hunter throws out a counter right but Drotchie avoids it with no problem.
A head kick misses from Drotchie.

Hunter thuds his right hand into Drotchie's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A lazy left from Hunter finds it's target.
Hunter throws out a powerful jab.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Drotchie's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hunter connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Drotchie scrambles back to his feet.

Drotchie has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Drotchie might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.
Drotchie rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hunter moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Drotchie ducks right into an uppercut from Hunter.
Hunter might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Hunter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Drotchie swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Drotchie wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Deontay Hunter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hunter lunges at Drotchie with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Drotchie's hand.

Gideon Drotchie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hunter wants to clinch but Drotchie slips to the side
and Drotchie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hunter won't be happy with that.

Drotchie has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Hunter is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Drotchie yanks on the arm and Hunter is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Drotchie.
