PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Bailey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patryk Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Bailey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Patryk Kowalski !
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalski tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bailey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Bailey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bailey misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kowalski wants to clinch up but Bailey keeps it at a distance.
Kowalski doesn't manage to clinch there - Bailey circles away.
It looked like Bailey was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Bailey goes for a double leg but Kowalski avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kowalski continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Bailey. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kowalski tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bailey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Bailey fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kowalski avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kowalski closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bailey's guard.

Kowalski sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bailey's guard.
Kowalski seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bailey does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kowalski stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Bailey to get to his feet.

Kowalski is looking to stand up but Bailey won't let him.
Bailey is pulling down on Kowalski 's head. It's preventing any offense from Kowalski , at least for the moment.

Kowalski wants to control from the top but Bailey keeps moving.
Kowalski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bailey swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kowalski stands and steps away. Bailey gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bailey.

Kowalski stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kowalski wants it to stay on the feet.
Kowalski unleashes a big counter combination but Bailey bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Bailey fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kowalski wants to counter with a clinch but Bailey pushes him away.
Kowalski tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bailey paws at him with a jab and circles away.
As Kowalski tries to get set, Bailey tries to push him back and clinch up but Kowalski manages to avoid the attempt.
Bailey shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kowalski sprawls well. Kowalski wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bailey gets slowly back to his feet.

Bailey is breathing heavily.

Kowalski changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bailey fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Patryk Kowalski dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Bailey has closed the distance and engaged Kowalski in a clinch.

Bailey manages to break the clinch.
No luck for Bailey with that takedown attempt.
Bailey throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kowalski .
Ryan Bailey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kowalski misses with a takedown attempt
and Bailey counters with a left and a right that stings Kowalski .

Kowalski bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bailey wants to get back to his feet but Kowalski is dominant here and he's now got Bailey's back!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kowalski wants to control but Bailey manages to buck him off and is now in Kowalski 's guard! Nice work there by Bailey!

Kowalski might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bailey haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Bailey gets to his feet. Kowalski looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Kowalski works his foot free and advances to mount.
Kowalski can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bailey is looking to escape.

Bailey is working hard here to advance position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bailey tries to hold on but Kowalski postures up.
Kowalski can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bailey is looking to escape.
Bailey has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kowalski biding his time, looking for the opening.
Kowalski struggling to keep hold of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ryan Bailey will probably get the nod.
That's time! Bailey's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

and Bailey counters with a low kick, right behind Kowalski 's knee.
Bailey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Nice takedown defense from Bailey. No joy for Kowalski on that attempt.

The fight stays on the outside here - Kowalski looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Bailey jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kowalski walks away with a smile on his face. Bailey gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Kowalski shoots for a double leg takedown but Bailey sprawls well. He's pushed Kowalski 's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Kowalski shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bailey is trying to defend but Kowalski finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bailey is looking for a sweep. Kowalski is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
