Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Lang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ian Lang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Thompson!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lang pinned against the cage. Lang gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lang drops down looking for a counter takedown but Thompson sprawls and moves away.
Lang throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Thompson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Thompson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lang defends it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Thompson.
Lang throws a big counter combination but Thompson scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Ian Lang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Thompson.

Thompson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lang as he jumps to the side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lang wants to take the fight to the mat but Thompson manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Thompson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Thompson throws a nice outside leg kick.
Thompson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lang is fending him off so far but Thompson persists. Nope, Lang circles away and we're back to standing.
Thompson wants to clinch up but Lang keeps it at a distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thompson shoots and misses

and Lang counters with a takedown into side control.
Lang slows the pace down.
Lang cracks Thompson with a big elbow.
Lang lands a nice forearm strike.

Lang decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Thompson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Thompson looks winded!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lang closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Lang stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Thompson has his takedown stuffed

and Lang counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Lang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lang is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Lang is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lang is looking to stand up but Thompson won't let him.

Lang wants to stand but Thompson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Lang stays in close to Thompson's body and controls the position.

Lang stands up from Thompson's guard - Lang perhaps looking for a knockout.

Thompson takes the fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Thompson tries for a takedown but Lang sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Lang drops down looking for a counter takedown but Thompson sprawls and moves away.

Lang controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lang is looking to stand up but Thompson won't let him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lang working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Thompson's head.
Lang would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lang has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Thompson is looking to stand up but Lang isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Thompson throws a head kick that misses.
Lang doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Lang drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Thompson sneaks out the side door and pushes Lang away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Thompson throws a sloppy head kick and Lang moves out of range easily.
A quick step to the side and Lang tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Thompson shoots for a takedown but Lang saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
John Thompson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thompson is breathing heavily.
Thompson falls off balance throwing a combination

and Lang counters by moving into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Thompson wants to stall.
Thompson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lang just stands there and leans against the cage.

Thompson thuds his right hand into Lang's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Thompson jumps guard but Lang turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Lang gets underhooks to prevent Thompson's takedown attempt.
Thompson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Thompson tries to break the clinch but Lang is controlling the position.
Lang tries to land knees in the clinch but Thompson avoids the damage to the body.
Thompson prevents a takedown attempt there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lang wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ian Lang will probably get the nod.

Lang looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Lang is trying to pull guard but Thompson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Lang turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Lang really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Lang works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Thompson is trying to work for a sweep but Lang has mounted him!

Lang stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Lang closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lang tries to stand but can't do so whilst Thompson controls his leg.

Lang stands up and beckons Thompson to join him on the feet.
Lang misses the shot to the body.

Thompson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Lang defends well and Thompson ends up having to push Lang into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lang changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Lang closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Thompson's guard.
Lang is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Lang gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Lang clinches up against the cage.

John Thompson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lang has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
