The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pinn's coach down at Canadian Dragon MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Pinn's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

It appears Thomson was looking to counter with a kick there.
A punch lands to the side of Thomson 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Pinn misses with a few strikes there.
Thomson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Thomson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pinn's guard.
Pinn wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Thomson manages to pass to side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thomson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pinn can do anything to dispel that myth.

Thomson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Pinn tries to kick Thomson off but Thomson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thomson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
