PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ric Flores (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronaldo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flores's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Napalm & Erruption- In San Francisco. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ric Flores!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ronaldo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flores lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Ronaldo Gracie has been cut.
Flores scores with a shot to the body.
Flores has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Rape Academy (7 elite, 6 2x elite) in the buildup to the fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gracie enables Flores to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gracie manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Flores got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Flores has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie can't keep his opponent in guard - Flores advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Gracie has hold of Flores's hands but Flores slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Gracie is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Gracie slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gracie seems keen to control Flores's posture.

Our spies down at at School of Hard Knocks inform us that Gracie has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That was a close round but I would say that Ric Flores will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Flores lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into range.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Flores is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Flores circles away and we're back to standing.
Flores misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Flores sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Flores leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ric Flores has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ronaldo Gracie.
Gracie circles away from the clinch attempt.
Flores is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gracie can do to turn this around?
Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Flores shows good takedown defense.

Flores isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Gracie stacks Flores on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Gracie!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gracie lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Gracie tries to control but Flores wriggling away.

Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Flores is looking to escape.
Flores wants to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.

Flores working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gracie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gracie manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ric Flores will probably get the nod.

The fighters circling - Flores throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Flores looks to land a combination. Gracie sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Flores clinches up with Gracie and pushes him back against the cage.
Gracie tries to score a body lock takedown but Flores shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Flores turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Flores manages to end up in side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Flores wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy.
Gracie tries to buck Flores off but Flores is having none of it.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Flores, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
