PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gynther Gail (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Sagat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Sagat does no damage.

and Sagat counters with a left and a right that hurts Gail! He wobbles and falls to the floor - he's in big trouble! Sagat jumps into full mount!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gail is wriggling around trying to escape.
Sagat blocks Gail's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Gail is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Gail has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gail tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sagat wants to finish this one by submission but Gail is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Sagat.

and Sagat counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gail thinking.

Gail throws a looping overhand right but Sagat ducks down to avoid it.
Sagat closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gail circles away.
Gynther Gail seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gail thuds his right hand into Sagat's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sagat has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sagat there as he acknowledges the shot.
Gail rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sagat moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sagat throws a lazy right hand but Gail sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Sagat uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gail.

Sagat thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Sagat is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gail is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Gail is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sagat's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Gail tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Sagat wants to control but Gail is having none of it.

Gail is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Gail extends the arm and Sagat is forced to tap!
