PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Drew Jitsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Floyd Pepper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Drew Jitsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 16 - 2, fighting out of New York, Floyd Pepper!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Valeri Chadov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jitsu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pepper leaves Jitsu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pepper unleashes a big counter combination but Jitsu bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Pepper will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pepper displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jitsu.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drew Jitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jitsu fails with the takedown.
No joy there for Pepper, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pepper connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Pepper closes the distance and pushes Jitsu back into the cage.
Pepper connects with a knee to the head.
Jitsu wants a takedown but no success here.

It looks like Drew Jitsu has been cut.
Jitsu drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pepper pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jitsu tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pepper defends well and Jitsu ends up having to push Pepper into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pepper lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Jitsu misses with a takedown attempt - Pepper sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Pepper gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Pepper creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Pepper tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jitsu avoids it.

Pepper lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


Drew Jitsu's cut is getting worse.
Pepper creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Jitsu's defenses.
Jitsu is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Pepper is pressed up against the cage. Jitsu has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pepper down to the mat. Pepper avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jitsu.
Pepper lands a head kick!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jitsu tries to keep at a distance but Pepper has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jitsu tries to break free but Pepper pushes him back against the cage.
Jitsu wants to break free but Pepper has control.
Jitsu tries for a takedown but Pepper manages to get underhooks.
Jitsu wants to break the clinch but can't.
Pepper misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Jitsu.
Pepper lands an elbow inside that Jitsu shrugs off.


Drew Jitsu's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pepper using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Jitsu has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Pepper misses with a knee to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Floyd Pepper dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pepper misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jitsu feinted with a counter takedown.
Pepper throws a lazy head kick

and Jitsu counters by moving into the clinch.
Jitsu blocks the elbow strike.

Jitsu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pepper throws a series of strikes that have Jitsu backpedaling.
Pepper has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jitsu tries for a takedown but Pepper sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Pepper stuffs the takedown attempt from Jitsu. Jitsu gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Sloppy strikes from Pepper. Those never looked like landing.

Pepper uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Jitsu has time to react.
Pepper with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Jitsu shoots for a takedown but Pepper saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drew Jitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A right-left combo lands from Pepper.
Jitsu on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Pepper. Pepper obviously looking to wear him down.
Jitsu fails with the takedown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Pepper throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jitsu was covering up waiting for the punch and Pepper finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jitsu has momentary wrist control but Pepper slips an elbow through the middle.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Drew Jitsu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Floyd Pepper!
During a confident post fight interview, Floyd Pepper thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
