PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stipe Mikas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Langhi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Langhi has chosen Mama Said Knock You Out as his entrance music. Michael Langhi is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Stipe Mikas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Langhi!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Langhi throws a looping overhand right but Mikas ducks down to avoid it.
A swing and a miss from Langhi.
Mikas ducks under a wild hook from Langhi.
Mikas thumps Langhi with a low kick.
Mikas throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Mikas tries to clinch but Langhi is having none of it.
Langhi is looking for the big counter here.
Mikas tries to clinch there but Langhi circles away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Langhi! But no joy.
Langhi lands a right hook to the body.
Langhi has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mikas finds it's way round the side to connect with Langhi's head.
Mikas tries for a takedown but Langhi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mikas uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Langhi.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloppy strikes from Langhi. Those never looked like landing.
Mikas lands with an uppercut that bounces Langhi off the cage and back into range.
Langhi takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mikas shoots in looking for a takedown. Langhi tries to sprawl out of it but Mikas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Langhi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Langhi steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Mikas. That one must have hurt.
Mikas lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Mikas misses with a takedown attempt - Langhi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A little jabbing left from Langhi on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stipe Mikas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Langhi misses the jab.
Langhi takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Mikas tries to clinch but Langhi moves out of range.
Langhi takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Langhi throws a right hand that Mikas ducks under and follows up with a left that Mikas also avoids with ease.
The fighters circling - Langhi throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Mikas fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Mikas throws a leg kick which misses Langhi's front leg but catches the back leg as Langhi tries to avoid it.
Mikas feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Langhi's calf.

Langhi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Mikas takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mikas lands a nice leg kick that just misses Langhi's sensitive parts.

It looks like Stipe Mikas has been cut.

Mikas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Langhi pinned against the cage. Langhi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mikas lands with a kick to the ribs.

Langhi misses with a hook. Mikas ducked under it nicely.
Mikas changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Mikas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Langhi as he jumps to the side.

Langhi lands a lovely overhand right.
Mikas moves out of range of the strikes.
Michael Langhi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Langhi misses with a straight left.
Mikas slips under a jab from Langhi.

A nice inside leg kick there by Mikas. That's going to slow Langhi down.

Mikas lands a leg kick that knocks Langhi off balance momentarily.

Mikas fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Langhi.
Langhi throws a jab but it's blocked by Mikas.
Langhi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Mikas takes the fight into the clinch.
Langhi blocking some punches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mikas has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Langhi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Mikas lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Langhi backwards.
Mikas keeps control of Langhi as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Mikas has Langhi pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Langhi manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mikas throws a head punch that misses.
Mikas makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Langhi is trying to break the clinch but Mikas is controlling him.
Langhi is trying to force a seperation but Mikas has the dominant position.

Mikas is trying to trip Langhi. He has hold of a leg but Langhi is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mikas persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Langhi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Mikas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Stipe Mikas will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Langhi misses with an uppercut. Mikas saw that one coming.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Mikas. Langhi shrugs it off though.
Langhi just misses with a punch to the body.
Langhi throws a jab but it's blocked by Mikas.
Mikas is looking to slow Langhi down with leg kicks.

Mikas attempts a counter takedown but Langhi avoids it well and moves away.
Mikas shoots for a double leg takedown but Langhi sprawls well. He's pushed Mikas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Stipe Mikas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheers as Mikas lands an impressive looking overhand right. Langhi doesn't seem phased though.

Langhi might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Mikas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Langhi defends well and Mikas ends up having to push Langhi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Mikas fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Langhi has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Langhi throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Mikas throws the kick towards the body but Langhi avoids it.
Langhi takes a swing at Mikas's ribcage but misses.

Mikas fakes the leg kick and cracks Langhi in the body.
Langhi's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Langhi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mikas to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mikas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mikas working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Langhi is trying to stand back up but Mikas is controlling him

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mikas working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Mikas seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Mikas wants to pass to mount but Langhi is defending the position.

Langhi is staying active underneath Mikas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Langhi can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mikas shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Langhi is trying to defend but Mikas finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mikas cracks Langhi with a big right hand but Langhi just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Mikas throws a strike aimed at the side of Langhi's head but Langhi avoids it well.
Langhi tries to buck Mikas off but Mikas is having none of it.

Langhi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mikas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mikas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
