PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Peck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralph Haber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Peck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ralph Haber!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Columbo Gatti and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haber is looking to clinch.
Peck tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Haber has managed to clinch.
Haber crunches a lovely knee into Peck's ribcage.
Peck is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Haber jumps guard and drags Peck to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Haber pulls Peck in close to prevent any damage.

Haber wriggles free and stands up.

Haber moves into the clinch successfully.
Haber landing knees to the head.


It looks like John Peck has been cut.
Haber stalling.
Haber lands an elbow inside that Peck shrugs off.
Peck takes an elbow to the temple.

Haber breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Haber forces Peck back against the cage and clinches.

Haber gets control of Peck's arms and successfully pulls guard. Haber will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Haber is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Haber wants to stand but Peck is controlling the position.

Haber scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Peck stuffs the takedown attempt from Haber. Haber gets slowly back to his feet.
Haber tries to clinch but Peck moves out of range.
Haber doesn't manage to clinch there - Peck circles away.
Haber is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Haber tries to clinch up but Peck circles away and keeps his distance.

Haber clinches with his opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Peck can't break the clinch.

Peck has had enough of the clinch but Haber keeps him there for the moment.
Haber gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Haber is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Haber ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Haber no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Peck has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Haber seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Haber wants to stand and escape but Peck is having none of it.
Peck is fighting to break Haber's control of his arms but Haber is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Peck tries to free his leg and advance position but Haber is retaining full guard.
Haber is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Haber is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Haber throwing shots but Peck is blocking nicely.
Peck wants to improve his position but Haber is controlling well.
Haber controlling the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Peck is trying to control but Haber passes into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peck is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ralph Haber dominated that round.
The cut man is working on John Peck's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Peck circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haber throws a head kick that Peck semi-blocks.
Haber tries to clinch there but Peck circles away.
Peck ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Haber moves away.
Peck tries to close the distance and clinch up but Haber swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Peck throws a lazy head kick
and Haber counters with a good, hard body kick but Peck shrugs it off.
Peck shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Haber.
Peck takes a kick to the side of the head.
Peck circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haber closes the distance looking to clinch

and Peck counters with a nice double leg into side control. Haber won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Haber can't do much from the bottom here.
Haber is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Peck asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Peck.
Peck tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Haber is trying to buck Peck off.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
I wouldn't like to be where Haber is right now.
Peck looking to control but instead Haber has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Peck counters with a two punch combo.

and Haber counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Haber is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Haber tries to clinch up but Peck circles away and keeps his distance.
Peck shoots in but Haber avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Haber closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Peck to the mat! Peck manages to get full guard.
Peck controls Haber momentarily but Haber frees himself.
Peck wants to control but Haber passes easily into half guard.

Ralph Haber showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Haber is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Haber not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

and Peck counters with a left and a right that stings Haber.

Peck is looking to control Haber's arms but Haber gets an underhook and turns him. Now Peck has his back to the cage.

Haber lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Haber has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Peck uses from the top position.

Ralph Haber comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Haber has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
